The Island

Corrected entry: After about 24 hours of running away, scrubbing on dirty surfaces (their white outfits are all dirty), being chased, shot at, falling off a tall building and almost getting killed, the only noticeable trace of Lincoln and Jordan's "adventures" is a cut on Lincoln's forehead. Jordan has an impeccable hairdo, there is nothing wrong with her makeup and even her fingernails are neat and done. This is quite impossible.

Correction: No, Jordan also has some small cuts on her forehead showing, and her hair at some points is lank and messy. After she cleans up at Tom's house, she still has some small cuts and blood flecks on her forehead, most noticeable when her and Lincoln are discussing going back to the Institute.

Corrected entry: You can't fire a nail gun like Jordan did the first time she fires it in the train station. For safety, they have to be pressed against something.

SexyIrishLeprechaun

Correction: It's 14 years in the future, who knows what kind of nail gun they may have by then?

Corrected entry: It makes no sense that Sarah Jordan is supposed to be a famous star, yet Jordan is able to dial directly to her home simply by looking her up in a public information booth. Even Lincoln's number was unlisted. On top of this, it's hard to imagine that there would only be one Sarah Jordan in the directory of a large city.

Correction: It's always up to the stars if they want to be in a phone book. In Switzerland for example, you can look up several politicians and stars with address and phone number over an internet directory.

Ronnie Bischof

Corrected entry: Why would Lincoln and Jordan be baffled at the concept of little people when they encounter children at the train station? They've been implanted with childhood memories, so they know what children would be.

Correction: There are no children inside the facility, so this would be the first time they've seen them physically, in real life.

Nick Bylsma

Corrected entry: Starkweather runs out of the operating room, and then get dragged back. A guy with an open chest would bleed much more than that.

Ronnie Bischof

Correction: Surgical techniques are clearly much more advanced than those of today and it's not clear what stage the operation is at.

tw_stuart

Corrected entry: In the scene where Lincoln and Jones are in the cop car just before the semi hits them, you can see a picture of a Detroit Red Wings Captain on one of the buildings. Since they are supposed to be in L.A., it's doubtful they have that many Wings fans. Part of the movie was shot in Detroit.

Correction: Most teams have fans who live in places other than the team's base - it's hardly impossible for this to happen.

Tailkinker

Correction: However, most of the city shots were done in Detroit.

Corrected entry: When the helicopter crew arrive at the facility to collect Michael Clarke Duncan's liver, one of them says they only have half an hour before the weather gets too bad to fly. However when Ewan McGregor reaches daylight (at most a couple of hours later) there are clear blue skies in all directions.

Correction: By that time the dust storm had passed.

Soylent Purple

Corrected entry: Lincoln and his sponsor have identical moles on their faces. This would be highly improbable since things like moles and birthmarks, although influenced by genetics, would appear randomly at different places on different clones of the same person.

Correction: They specifically mentioned a full scan is done of the sponsor. Since skin can be harvested as well, the clones could be constructed with birth-marks, etc. They formed them as adults, so they are not normal clones, they are exact copies.

Joshua Skains

Corrected entry: When the Lincolns are driving to the TV station, the clone stamps on the brake and skids out over the white line. When the copter comes down, it's further back.

SexyIrishLeprechaun

Correction: There is nothing in the shot that we are able to know if he backed up or not. There is nothing in the movie that we can use as a focus point. There is nothing visible from the windows. When we see the overshot we see that there are skid marks, which indicates he moved back.

James Storck

Corrected entry: After Lincoln 6 Echo goes down to the 'basement' to have a quick drink with McCord, the liquor does not show up when his urine is analysed. They should know immediately that he's had a tipple and he'd be in trouble.

Correction: The liquor doesn't show up because the urine was not tested for alcohol. The clones aren't given alcohol, so there would be no reason to test for it.

Corrected entry: When they get back to McCord's home, he manages to look up details of the clones' sponsors. Why does he have access to these details? Why would he need them?

Correction: The sponsors need to be contacted if anything goes wrong with their clones (like the one that awoke during surgery near the beginning) so they can come back to scan their DNA again. As an employee, McCord had the information to do so.

Corrected entry: Clones do not have the same fingerprints as each other. Identical twins are clones because they are derived from the same egg, but they still don't have the same prints.

SexyIrishLeprechaun

Correction: It is true that identical twins do not have the exact same fingerprints. However, they are very, very close. I am an identical twin. I have a safety deposit box at a bank that requires a thumbprint scan to open it. My brother can open it too.

Scott Woelfel

Corrected entry: How exactly did the Institute get the results back from Lincoln Six Echo's brain scan? Lincoln "disposed" of them after he had already left the Institute, so there was no way they could retrieve the information. Even if they sent out signals to receivers inside the Institute, they wouldn't have a complete brain scan because he left too early.

Correction: They followed Echo's trail to the bathroom and/or picked up their homing signals to retrieve them. The probes did manage to complete their scan because they left through the urine just as they were designed to. What makes you think he has to be in the facility for the probes to work?

James King III

Corrected entry: As Lincoln and Jordan are escaping the Institute, they are crawling through construction areas and ventilation shafts, getting their white jump suits visibly dirty. Once they emerge from the Institute into the real world, their suits are instantly clean again.

Steph_Jared

Correction: No, their suits are filthy. When they first emerge into the "real" world, there is very bright sunlight, and it is harder to see the dirt, but then as the scenes progress and they are walking further through the desert, you can clearly see that their suits are covered in dry "filth".

mandy gasson

Corrected entry: We find out that "The Island" is set in 2019, but how come everywhere people go there are things from 2005? There are loads of cars that people have now, plus the advert Jordan 2 Delta looks at when she reaches LA (the CK eternity advert with Scarlett Johansson) is from 2005.

Correction: Fourteen years is not that long a period of time - many people still have cars of that age, and some car designs don't change that quickly, so it's entirely plausible that we'd see a reasonable number of vehicles that look very familiar, and the same applies to other items. As for the advert, in story terms, that's not the 2005 advert with Scarlett Johannson, it's a more recent 2019 advert with Sarah Jordan, who merely bears a startling resemblance to the earlier actress.

Tailkinker

Corrected entry: When Tom Lincoln discovers Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan in his house, he attacks, smashing the glass case of the Renevatio model. Moments later, the case is intact again.

Correction: He does not fall and break the Renevatio casing, he falls onto a glass coffee table that is next to the casing.

mandy gasson

Corrected entry: When Lincoln 6 Echo goes for a night time walkabout, how come he is not spotted, with all of the technological advances they have shown in the film? They can tell if two clones have compromised their proximity, but he is able to walk about undetected, I would imagine that there would be cameras, and this wrist band would also monitor his movements.

Correction: The lack of sensors outside the "product areas" is further evidence that the company CEOs truly believed the products were so naive that they would not escape (also, think about all that brainwashing during their embryonic time).

Corrected entry: Lima One Alpha, the first woman to die in the movie, was made to have her sponsor's baby. However, since her last name is Alpha, she is 7 years old at the Institute. Even if she was one of the last Alphas made, it took a full year to make her, and another year to have the baby, it equals out to an absolute maximum of 3 years. Where happened to those missing 4 years?

Correction: Perhaps she wasn't solely created to have a baby - the sponsor was certainly rich enough before she wanted a baby. Also, perhaps the reason she wasn't able to carry/conceive/birth a child was the reason she had the insurance policy to begin with. Finally, perhaps she knew she'd want a baby one day but didn't know when.

Corrected entry: In the chase scene on the freeway, where Lincoln and Jordan are on the back of the truck, they release a load of train wheels into the cars chasing them. However, we have already seen that trains no longer use wheels.

Correction: The wheels are also rather rusty, so they're probably on their way to be scrapped.

Xofer

Corrected entry: In the scene where Lincoln and Jordan are hiding in the old building before they get on the train, security is trying to break in to get them. One of them reaches his hand through a hole to try and unlock the door. Jordan then nails his hand a few times with a nail gun. It shows a shot of the nails on the other side, but they don't have any blood on them.

Correction: Nothing bleeds that fast, there's no major arteries in the hand. Plus the nail would have been moving quite fast, and would have been wiped clean by the wood in the door anyway.

Deliberate mistake: Gandu Three Echo, the clone who hits the screen showing the first lottery winner in the movie, complains that he has been around for 7 years and never won the lottery. However, McCord explains later in the movie that the last name tells how old the clones are. Lincoln Six Echo is 3 years old because he is in the Echo generation, and the Delta generation (Jordan Two Delta) is 4 years old. Going backwards, this would make Charlies 5 years old, Bravos 6 years old, and Alphas 7 years old. Gandu Three Echo should have really been Gandu Three Alpha. (00:05:55)

Trivia: Robert Fiveson, the producer of the 1979 B movie "Parts: The Clonus Horror" sued Dreamworks, Warner Brothers, Michael Bay and the producers of "The Island", citing over ninety similarities between the films. Despite the fact that he was a long forgotten producer of low budget films and he was up against the biggest names in Hollywood, he settled out of court for an undisclosed "seven figure sum" and 15% of the net profits of "The Island." Since it cost £126,000,000 plus advertising and netted just £81,000,000, I hope he got his seven figure sum.

Question: At the beginning of the movie, when Lincoln wakes up, he removes something from his ID bracelet. What is this and what significance does it have?

Brad

Chosen answer: It appears to be some sort of cable - it can be seen leading to the bracelet in the shot from above the bed immediately prior to the one where Lincoln unplugs it. Exactly what it does is never revealed, but it seems likely to be some sort of monitoring system, keeping an eye on Lincoln's health through sensors in the bracelet.
