Suggested correction: While yes there are slight angles involved, considering this was most likely a physical prop on-set, the direction of the camera tilt wouldn't be a factor. The direction the paint runs in doesn't seem wildly inconsistent with what would happen when painting something like that.

Revealing mistake: When Dr. Railly is tied to the bed in the motel, her bonds are not very secure. In her struggles, she very nearly frees her right foot, by accident.

James Cole: Look at them. They're just asking for it. Maybe the human race deserves to be wiped out.

Question: There are marked similarities between Cole's present day asylum and his future world, such as the showers he receives, and the scientists/doctors. What is the significance of these parallels? Do they have a hidden meaning?

Answer: It is meant to draw similarities between the treatment of the mentally ill and convicted felons. Quite often, even today, the mentally ill are housed and treated in facilities that are little better (for quality of life or prospects of rehabilitation) than prisons.
