Continuity mistake: The court martial ends with Willie still an Ensign, but when he reports aboard Commander De Vriess' destroyer, his next assignment, he is a full Lieutenant (two full stripes).

Suggested correction: Why is this a mistake? He could easily have been promoted between the court martial and his new assignment.

Suggested correction: Willie was not a full lieutenant. He had a half stripe added. He was a lieutenant junior grade.

Factual error: The movie takes place during WW-II. In the scene where Maryk, Keefer and Keith go to visit the admiral on the aircraft carrier, the ship has the hull number of "33". The aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge CV-33 was not commissioned until 1946, after WW-II was already over.

Lt. Commander Philip Francis Queeg: Aboard my ship, excellent performance is standard, standard performance is sub-standard, and sub-standard performance is not permitted to exist - that, I warn you.

Trivia: After Lt. Commander Queeg's curt briefing with senior officers he assigns orders to Ensign Keith regarding sailors' shirttails, hair length, and facial hair, and when Queeg leaves them Ensign Keith says, "Well, he's certainly Navy," and Lieutenant Keefer responds, "Yeah, so was Captain Bligh." This foreshadows the events to come, as it alludes to 1789's mutiny aboard the HMS Bounty of The Royal Navy, against its captain, William Bligh.
