Revealing mistake: When Homer is sitting outside (on a dock?) reading a letter from Dr. Larch you can see through the envelope and the letter because the white paper is thin. You can tell there are writings on the letter but it is equally obvious that the envelope is blank with no address written on it.

The Cider House Rules (1999)
1 revealing mistake - chronological order
Directed by: Lasse Hallström
Starring: Michael Caine, Charlize Theron, Paul Rudd, J.K. Simmons, Delroy Lindo, Tobey Maguire
Factual error: When Homer and Candy go to the movies, the theater has stadium seating. This seating style in theaters wasn't used until much later, not in the early 1940's, and certainly not in Maine.
Homer: I'm just not supposed to get excited, you know. No strain. No stress. I try to keep calm all the time.
Wally Worthington: I can't imagine there's any strain or stress around here.
Trivia: This film earned Michael Caine his second Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He won his first for his role in "Hannah and Her Sisters."
Question: Is it ever revealed why Candy has the abortion? She is in a relationship with the baby's father, they both have jobs, etc. Is it because she doesn't want to raise the baby herself while he's at war?

Answer: She was not married to the baby's father, which would have been an absolute stigma at the time.
