Brandon Teena, a transgendered female-to-male (FTM), was born Teena Brandon. When he is forced to leave town after committing a crime, he winds up in Nebraska, where he meets and befriends Candace, a single mother. Young and foolhardy, Brandon acts recklessly despite the dangers of his biological identity being discovered.
