Continuity mistake: When smoke tries to talk down the guy who cheated at dice, the blade is always at the same place in one shot regardless of what happens in the matching reverse shots. (01:15:50)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Remmick mentions Mary's "deep, deep pain," look at Bert's hands in the background. Left hand over right hand. Cuts to him, and it's right over left. Similarly, when Joan repeats "Fellowship and love," she can be seen also in the next shot with her hands in a different position. (01:11:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Mary sticks her right hand out to see the money the three singers have to offer, but in close-up we see the gold coins in her left hand. (01:11:15)

Sammo

Factual error: The song the three vampires in disguise perform in front of Mary is "Wild Mountain Thyme (Will You Go Lassie Go)", but in 1932 the song wouldn't have those lyrics or melody; to be truthful to actual history, Remmick and his minions should have performed "The Braes of Balquhither", which is the original folk song that was then rewritten in the 50s by Francis McPeake. Of course, you could always say that Remmick's particular powers could somehow give him an insight into the future. (01:09:15)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: After Remmick's visit, Smoke summons Preacherboy to the upper floor to talk to him. At the beginning of their conversation, their hands don't follow continuity when they lean against the railing. (01:05:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Right at the beginning of the scene with Sammie getting to be with Pearline, she asks if the door locks. Her scarf is still tightly up the side of her neck when he removes his hand, but in the next shot the scarf is practically off already before she removes it. (00:59:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: After Stack's declaration of love, Mary cries a single tear. Look at the dancers by her. When she walks off in an overhead shot, the dancers have changed positions. (00:52:45)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Sammie and Mary are drinking at the bar after he unsuccessfully tried to make her leave. Look at the mug in Sammie's hand; he holds it in different ways between shots, the handle pointing to the right, then to the left, with no continuity. (00:49:15)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Sammie is talking to Pearline at the beginning of the party, she leans against a post, looking at him in a seductive fashion. He asks her if her husband is coming, and she just shakes her head while looking at him provokingly, chin tucked but looking up. In the reverse angle, she is actually facing up. (00:47:55)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Sammie walks Pearline into the juke joint and tells her, "My cousins own it," they come across a couple of women. One of them is holding a bottle of beer in her left hand. In the reverse shot, she is holding it in her right hand. (00:46:50)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Right at the beginning of the party, Annie is telling a rather poor elderly gentleman the selection of drinks. He can only (and actually not fully) afford corn liquor. She says, "That'll be 50 cents." Her hand is on her hip, but it's in a different position as the camera switches to him. (00:45:35)

Sammo

Revealing mistake: When the injun vampire hunters get to the little house in the middle of nowhere, tyre tracks doing the same path can be seen in the dust, quite obviously from previous takes. (00:42:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Stack is riling Cornbread up, making a lewd joke involving his wife. The huge guy threatens to "beat the black off you." Notice the strap of his overalls stretched out almost off his right shoulder. There's a reaction shot on him to Stack going "Don't want no trouble," and the strap is back up, then a reaction shot to Therise's question about the actual money involved, and the strap is back stretched out like before. (00:33:10)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Smoke pays respect to the tomb of his daughter, the spot is lit entirely differently in the various shots, and the same goes for Wunmi Mosaku's body. (00:34:10)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Delta Slim is on the car with Stack and Sammie, the natural light changes a few times - most noticeable when Slim starts telling the story of his incarceration for vagrancy. (00:29:30)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: During the whole conversation where Stack invites Delta Slim to play at their juke, the position of Michael B. Jordan's left arm is inconsistent between shots. His hand is waist level, or the arm is relaxed down his side, with no continuity. (00:22:45)

Sammo

Factual error: Bo Chow sells in his store, amongst other things, also Extra Thin Leads by Scripto. But the logo of the company is the 'modern' version from the mid-40s (still practically unchanged today), not the one that would have been used in 1932 (with no colourful big title and with the cross-stroke of the cursive T extended above the whole word). (00:16:00)

Sammo

Deliberate mistake: At the cost of stating the obvious, while cool for modern standards, the open face grills shown off by the Twins throughout the movie were never a fashion statement in the 1930s.

Sammo

Continuity mistake: In the scene at the train station, several extras are recycled and move back and forth. Just as an example, look when Mary approaches Stack and he sends Preacherboy away. An elderly gentleman wearing a little straw hat with a black band passes by behind Michael B. Jordan. Seconds later, when he reacts to her rather crude reminiscence of their last meeting (tongue and all), he does again the same walk as before. (00:27:45)

Sammo

Audio problem: At the Clarksdale station, Mary tells Stack to rot in hell. In the next shot, not only is Michael B. Jordan's head tilted in a different way, but you can also see his lips are moving as if he were muttering a line, but nothing can be heard, and he's not supposed to say anything; the next shot again does not match. (00:28:30)

Sammo

Pearline: I'm married, by the way.
Sammie Moore: Happily?
Pearline: Careful, boy. You gon' bite more than you can chew.
Sammie Moore: Maybe I'll see you tonight.

Trivia: The costumes in this film were originally intended to be used in Marvel Studios' perpetually stalled reboot of Blade, which was supposed to take place in the 1920s prior to the start of its production being postponed. In order to recoup some of their costs, Marvel sold the costumes to the production of this film.

Question: Is it me, or do the actions of the party of vampire hunters not seem to make a lot of sense? I realise that there are five of them and at night vampires are incredibly strong; however, there's a single one inside a little hut away from everything. Leaving the vampire free to do whatever he likes feels like a terrible idea; they could deal with a whole town, leaving him to be with no opposition. They don't even monitor his movements. It's kind of absurd that we just never see a single trace of them anymore.

Sammo

Answer: It was the director's first attempt at writing his own original screenplay. A good attempt, but many subplots were ignored or forgotten. The Native Americans were searching for the creature, possibly helping the trapped people. Using only the white people as vampires, fighting against the African Americans. A stand-off. Good vs evil.
