Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver mistake picture

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene right after DeNiro is watching the Senator on the TV, he is driving in his cab past the campaign headquarters. As the camera goes past the window and focuses on desk phone, you can see the reflection of a cameraman for a second or so in the glass. (00:51:00)

Visible crew/equipment: Travis clears out because the policeman told him he can't park there and so he starts the car and drives. Everyone in the crowd looks (many turn around explicitly and ) as he passes by, in particular looking right where the camera car in front of the taxi is. The senator is supposed to talk in a different direction, where De Niro is looking. (01:12:55)

Visible crew/equipment: Travis Bickle got all geared up to go kill the senator. There's an opening panning shot of Charles Palantine arriving at the location. As the relatively small scope of the meeting implies, but also as shown in the rest of the scene, there's no camera crew following Palantine, no big crane rig or anything. Yet you can easily spot people in this crowd who don't care about the Senator but look at the movie camera. One of the followers is particularly hilarious; on the left of the frame, he keeps waving his hand at the camera, tries to follow Palantine and direct the gesture at him, and then goes back to signaling the camera. Visible crew/equipment: When Palantine is walking through the crowd, several extra don't look at all where he is supposed to be, but at the camera, either staring directly at it breaking 4th wall when it's in De Niro's close-ups, or even more blatantly turning around (and away from the Senator) to look up where the camera crane is. Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Robert De Niro shoots Sport the pimp in the stomach, the bullet supposedly goes through Sport's back, and blood splatters onto the doorway framework behind him. However, as Sport falls to the ground, look closely, and you can see a wire dangling from his lower back, which was used by the special effects team to detonate the fake blood packet. (01:39:05)

Visible crew/equipment: Right before De Niro's character is shot in the neck, you can see the small charge used to detonate the blood. (01:39:50)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where the man has DeNiro pull over to the curb and says he is going to kill his wife with a .44 gun, there is a close up of the meter clicking over to $2.75. In the next shot from the backseat, the meter reads $0.65.

Suggested correction: The reason for that is because after Travis stopped the car, he turned off the meter. Then Scorcese's character asks what he's doing, and to put the meter back on. The $.65 indicates "$.65 first 1/6 mile" as clearly painted on the cab.

As the text of the original mistake stated, there is a close-up of the meter. A biiig one, that follows by quite a few seconds the meter being turned off. You can see the 0.65 before that close-up, you can see it after, it then changes to 0.75 and so on. This correction is totally wrong and the original post is correct.

Travis Bickle: [Into the mirror.] You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well, I'm the only one here. Who the f**k do you think you're talking to? Oh, yeah? Okay! [whips out gun.] Huh?

Question: Is there an official explanation to the ending of the movie? Some people say that it was Travis's dream sequence, and others say it was Travis going back to his manic depressive self again. What caused Travis to get so startled when he was looking at the rear vision mirror? Did Scorsese deliberately make the ending very vague or is there supposed to be an explanation to the ending?

Answer: This is just my opinion. Remember Iris's line "Have you ever tried looking at your own eyeballs in the mirror?" or something to that effect. Well, Travis sees the madness reflected in his own eyes, doesn't like what he sees (as it reminds him of what he has done, what he might yet do).

Answer: There is. Both Scorsese (in the audio commentary) and screenwriter Paul Schrader in multiple interviews establish that the ending is not to be taken as a dream sequence or anything of the sort. I love the previous answer, by the way, it does nail what has also been stated; while Travis survived this time, it's very likely there will be a next.
