Speed 2: Cruise Control

Question: After the ship was turned from hitting the oil tanker and then they returned to the bridge, they saw the ship was going to hit land. Why didn't they just go down again and turn the ship out to sea?

Answer: The ship has no way to stop or steer. By hitting land it would bring the ship to a stop (at a considerable cost) where as if they go out to sea, they would just continue to keep going until out of fuel or hit something they can't avoid and risk everyone drowning. A risk that is not present if they hit land.

Question: Why did the first sail boat the ship hit explode? (01:38:20)

Answer: There is no logical reason for it and it is purely for cinematic theatrics. It's a movie myth that cars, boats, etc. immediately explode upon impact. In real life, explosions rarely happen that way.

Question: After Seabourn Legend is way past the oil tanker, it heads straight for the island. There were sailboats all around. So why didn't the other half of the passengers just jump off the back of the ship away from the propellers? That way they can be saved by the sailboats.

Answer: Jumping off a large cruise ship, even from the lowest deck, hitting the water from that height, would result in many fatalities or severe injuries.

Question: I've never understood why Annie was such a terrible driver in this film (driving test scene). She says in Speed that she had her licence revoked for speeding, which doesn't make her a bad driver, just fast. She managed to drive the bus fairly well.

Answer: Annie is a reckless driver. The way she drives during her test certainly fits with the description she gives in the first film of why her license was revoked. She only says "speeding" when asked why her license was revoked but excessive speeding and reckless driving go hand in hand. It is doubtful that anyone who has had their license revoked for speeding tickets would be an otherwise safe and responsible driver.

Not everyone that speeds is reckless. The driving scene in Speed 2 is excessively bad.

Question: When Annie went to get something to open the fire doors she picked a red chainsaw, but put it down in favor of a yellow one instead. Why did she do that?

Answer: Because the yellow one had a longer guide bar (what one might call the blade).

Plot hole: Dafoe and Bullock leave the ship a long time before it hits the tanker and there is a lot more time before it crashes into the town and even more before Alex gets on that speedboat. No matter how fast he could have gone, there is no way he would have caught up with them.
