Now You See Me 2

The movie begins with a flashback showing Thaddeus Bradley, a magician exposed in the previous film, incarcerated in a prison cell. He receives a card inviting him to join an organization called the Eye.

One year after the events of the first film, the remaining members of the Four Horsemen, J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Jack Wilder, and new member Lula May, are in hiding. They are awaiting instructions from the mysterious Eye.

Meanwhile, FBI agent Dylan Rhodes is blackmailed by someone known as "The Eye" to assign him to the search for the Horsemen. Disguised, the Four Horsemen crash a high-profile tech launch event, exposing the CEO Owen Case as a corrupt businessman who has stolen private data from millions of people.

Just as they are about to make their escape, the Horsemen are captured by mercenaries and taken to Macau. They encounter Walter Mabry, a wealthy technology prodigy who forces them to steal a powerful computer chip known as "The Stick," which has the ability to decrypt any security system in the world. Mabry threatens the Horsemen to complete the task within a limited timeframe.

While the Horsemen plan their heist, Dylan approaches Thaddeus Bradley, who is now a celebrity of sorts, for information on the whereabouts of the Horsemen. Instead, Dylan exposes Thaddeus as the mastermind behind the Horsemen's disappearance. Thaddeus is captured, and Dylan reveals that he is working with The Horsemen.

As the Horsemen attempt to steal The Stick, they discover that it is a trap set by Mabry. They successfully escape, but their reputation is ruined when they are accidentally stealing a powerful electromagnet needed for their plan.

The Horsemen regroup and decide to expose Mabry as the real villain by tricking him into stealing a fake chip, while the Horsemen steal The Stick from his high-security vault. They con Mabry at a magic show, revealing his true intentions to have access to The Stick's decryption powers to control the world's economic grid.

The Horsemen successfully steal The Stick, but Dylan, revealed to be The Eye, double-crosses them, taking The Stick and revealing his allegiance to Mabry. However, Dylan had secretly arranged a grand plan to expose Mabry and avenge his father, who was a victim of Mabry's financial schemes.

With the Horsemen arrested and sentenced to death, Dylan presents a video exposing Mabry's crimes, leading to his arrest. The Horsemen escape from custody and perform their final act, revealing Dylan's true identity to the entire crowd at a public event.

In the end, Dylan reveals that he was not the fifth Horseman. Instead, it was Lula May, who was trained by Dylan during his time as an FBI agent. The movie ends with the Horsemen disappearing into the crowd, leaving a deck of cards behind, hinting at their next act.

Plot hole: Prior to the final show, when the horsemen are performing separately at different locations in London. [Scene X] Jack is busy with his card swap trick. While others are doing their tricks too, [Scene Y] McKinney is believed to be tricked once again by his face sharing brother at another location... Dylan gets a call and then he calls everyone to wrap up and meet somewhere. [Scene Z] Jack also wraps up and leaves the place... OK. Later after the expose in final show McKinney tells the story about how Jack successfully hypnotized his brother [in the Scene Y]. How could Jack be at two different locations at the same time? He was performing somewhere else when he did hypnotism at another location and then wraps up his trick back where he started.

Question: I thought that the chip they stole was fake? Why did Walter think it is real? Hypnosis?

Answer: Walter thought the chip was real because he placed it under a scanner and the scanner confirmed that the chip was real. However, given the fact that later on it was revealed that the whole plane sequence was a set up, it is probable that the device used to scan the chip was actually a fake that was used to make Walter believe the chip was real, most likely throw him off guard.

Casual Person

Answer: It is revealed later on that Allen Scott-Frank, the man from the Macau Science Center, where they stole the fake chip from, was working with The Eye. He likely anticipated their arrival due to being in contact with The Eye and planted a fake chip into the system, allowing the Horsemen to steal it. This fake chip was likely designed to trick a scanner into thinking it was real.

Casual Person

They stole the real chip but lost it. That's how they were able to recognize the one they currently had was fake.
