Continuity mistake: As Jack presents Joan with the necklace when they are seated at dinner during the festival scene, the one he is holding in his hand is a beaded necklace, to attract more light for the further camera shot, only when the close up of the table occurs it is a completely different necklace. Suggested correction: Jack actually hands her a lot of necklaces not just one, Joan picks out only the one with the heart and puts it on. Of course we know why she chooses that one, but if you look when they get up to dance you can see the other necklaces in a pile on the table, pearls included with the other gold necklaces. I always wondered why he just didn't buy her the one, why did he buy her the bunch then just leave them on the table? (Yes I'm sure they got them when they were done dancing).

Continuity mistake: Before Joan and Jack go down the waterfall in Ralph's car they are seen heading for the sliding roof to get out. In the next, wide shot a split second later they are hanging on to the sides. (01:19:20)

Continuity mistake: When Joan is looking for paper tissue to wipe off the tears she sheds over her own book she finally blows her nose with a note stuck to the mirror, saying "Don't forget - buy tissue". The note was stuck on the left side of the mirror, but when she grabs it in close-up it's stuck in the middle. (00:04:45)

Continuity mistake: When Joan leaves for the airport by taxi she's being watched by Zolo who is sitting in his car. Depending on the camera angle, his windshield wipers are either in normal or in interval mode. (00:18:15)

Continuity mistake: Right after the bus crash and shootout at the beginning of the movie, it starts to pour with rain and Jack and Joan are walking along the dirt road. The road gives way and Jack and Joan fall down a slope. They end up in a muddy pool and as Jack comes up for air (between Joan's thighs), you can see his wet hair is plastered forward over his ears in one shot and in the next shot it has been pushed neatly back behind his ears - this sequence is repeated a couple of times. (00:31:35)

Continuity mistake: The straw surrounding the rabbit statue is completely dry, although it has been in water for many years only covered by coarse cloth.

Jacob La Cour

Continuity mistake: After Joan and Jack jump out of the car in the waterfall, Jack exits the water, stands on a rock, and waves at Joan. When the angle changes he is coming out again, repeating all the movements.

Continuity mistake: The piece of wood Zolo grabs as a weapon changes shape between shots. When he threatens Joan with it, seen from behind the end is quite even, but when seen from the front (and when he picks it up at first) it is pointy.

Continuity mistake: When Joan and Jack arrive in the town, Danny De Vito is on the public phone to his cousin, Ira, and when he sees Jack and Joan, he says "You are the luckiest son of a bitch; she's coming right toward the phone booth," but he says this before Jack and Joan have even seen the phone booth, let alone walked towards it.

Continuity mistake: When Jack and Joan crash into the river above the waterfall, the hood on their car pops open and appears to be seriously askew. In the next scene, as they float down the river, the hood has become tightly closed.

Trivia: The film was written by Diane Thomas. Thomas was a struggling waitress and actress, and had been working odd jobs to make ends meet when she wrote the script. While there is some dispute over how it happened, eventually the script made its way to actor Michael Douglas, who championed Thomas and helped get the movie made. The script was so well-liked, she ended up getting numerous offers, and at one point was even attached to help write one of the "Indiana Jones" sequels. Sadly, she was killed in a car accident only a year after this movie's release, and it remains the only film she was credited for writing.

Question: Joan wilder is a successful author with a nice apartment and is financially well off. So why wouldn't she pay Jack the $500 he originally wanted for his help? Given her situation, I didn't think it was too much to ask.

Gavin Jackson
