Factual error: The presidents of South Africa, South West Africa and the Rhodesias all object to Seretse and Ruth's marriage. But the head of state of all these countries and territories at the time was King George VI. None of them had presidents.
Continuity mistake: The protagonist is on the couch with his girlfriend in Fresno. He mumbles worried about her dad "knowing"; his hands are joined with different placement (left on top, right on top) between shots. (00:13:15)
Factual error: When Chiron is speaking with the social worker after being assaulted by Kevin, the social worker urges Chiron to press charges. It is the government who decides to press charges, based on evidence gathered by the police, including witness and victim statements. Crime victims do not decide whether or not to press charges. (01:02:20)
Suggested correction: It should be noted the term "press charges" in this case is meant to denote that a victim of a crime reports the crime to the police (as in file a charge against a person to the police), not the legal sense of pressing charges in court. Plus, victims of crimes can pursue a civil case against a criminal.
Continuity mistake: Mother and son run towards the store window as the Ford Galaxy is burning in the parking lot. At the end of the shot from behind, a woman with a lilac top and long brown hair comes into frame and leans against the vegetable stand. After the cut, with Jamie and the mom by the window, the same woman walks in again. (00:01:30)
Continuity mistake: During James and Bob's first meeting, in one early shot the box of cereals is on the counter next to the cat, while in the rest of the scene it's not there, nor it is supposed to since James gave his furry friend a lift but never picked the box up from the floor. (00:16:00)
Factual error: The 5th Amendment to the Constitution simply states that "No person... shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself." There is no actual or implied provision that means once you have answered a question, you can't plead the 5th on any subsequent questions, as the movie depicts.
Continuity mistake: In the opening shot, some soldiers scare off a group of kids and they begin running away in the opposite direction. There are eight kids shown initially, but when they run past Sook-Hee in the next shot, only four of them are shown. (00:02:10)
Other mistake: The typewriter ribbon in Gemma Arterton's typewriter looks to be installed upside down, with the red half of the ribbon showing above the black half.
Continuity mistake: At the end, when Gloria hurls Oscar completely out of sight beyond the horizon, a huge crowd of South Koreans rush up directly behind Gloria, cheering and applauding, only a few feet away from her. The camera cuts to a frontal shot of Gloria, and now the crowd is 30 feet or more in the background.
Factual error: When Anita Hill is in her hotel room waiting to testify she is watching the Texas v. OU football game. In the movie the date for that scene is Friday, October 11, 1991. The Texas v. OU football game was played on Saturday, October 12, 1991.
Factual error: When Vinny Panzienza has his cervical halo brace removed (without anesthetics), he yells and groans and grunts in pain, but his hands are relaxed on the arms of the chair. I can tell you, from experience with this exact situation, the pain is so intense that his hands should have been clenched as tight as a vise.
Other mistake: When Bill is alone with the girl at his house, there is a roaring fire, but in the next scene the fire is completely out and he comments, "you must be cold, I didn't have time to start a fire".
