Thunderball picture

Corrected entry: Near the end of the movie,in the scene where the man jumps off of the boat with Bond and Domino, what happens to him? Bond and Domino get in the inflatable boat the plane drops, but in wide shots of the scene, the man is nowhere to be seen.

Correction: Afterwards you can see the plane drop more than one lifeboat. He simply might be on another one.

The Great Race picture

Corrected entry: Professor Fate's auto, when it raises itself off the running gear, has no means of propulsion. The drivetrain is not connected to the drive axles by either a driveline or chain.

Correction: The drive and steering are both hydraulic. You can see the hoses from several views.

The Sound of Music picture

Corrected entry: The von Trapps are shown walking over the border to Switzerland after a short drive out of the centre of town...except Salzburg is about 200km east of Switzerland. If one walked across the border at Salzburg, you'd be entering Germany, which is where (I believe) the people they were trying to get away from lived. Take a look at a map.

Correction: Even though the von Trapps were 200km from the Swiss border, in the last 5 mins, they received a car from the sisters at the convent and the sisters disabled the cars of their pursuers.

Captain Von Trapp was clear, when they were about to hide, that they would drive into the mountains in Salzburg (which the movie did a close up on to show it was those mountains specifically) and walk over them on foot confirming the movie is pretending those are mountains into Switzerland. The director himself admitted this when the real Maria Von Trapp complained of this error. He said "In Hollywood you can make up your own geography."

Help! picture

Corrected entry: After the two scientists have driven off with Ringo in the boot of the car, they notice George jumping on the back of the car. But when they stop, they don't notice George opening the boot to get the wheelbrace out, or that the boot is still open when they drive off, even though the boot lid obscures the rear window.

Correction: Algernon and Professor Foot are completely preoccupied with getting the car re-started and don't notice anything outside the car. The fact that George is able to take the lug nuts off without them seeing him is part of the joke. Remember, Algernon and Professor Foot aren't really that smart; they think one indestructible rock will give them the power to "rule the world".

For a Few Dollars More picture

Corrected entry: In the gunfight scene at the end almost at the exact point of the discharge of the guns, if you look in the distance to the left of Indio you will see a white vehicle travelling along a road from the left to the right.

Correction: Checked frame by frame, no car to be seen.

Battle of the Bulge picture

Corrected entry: During the battle for Bastogne a German tank is coming over a wall. Two GIs place plastic explosives the size of bricks (and white), on the underside of the tank. Watch as the explosives are placed - they disappear, then they return again just before the explosion.

Correction: In the first sentence you mention the town of Bastogne. The scene you describe was actually during the battle of Ambeleve. It is the only scene in the entire movie where a town is being attacked. Also, the only scene at Bastogne was the scene where the Germans send out a messenger with an ultimatum, under a white flag of truce. He is subsequently blindfolded and taken to the American command post to deliver it.

Correction: The dialogue never states it is a British design, neither is there a logical reason why a British pilot shouldn't fly a french design. The dialog explicitly states that "until three years ago" there were no British fliers, so instead it makes perfect sense to see British fliers use imported designs.

In Harm's Way picture

Corrected entry: When Kirk Douglas boards the PBJ bomber, taxies to the runway and takes off, he is sitting in the right-hand seat. During the rest of his scene in the plane he's in the left-hand seat.

Correction: This error is untrue. Eddington remains in the right seat even to the point his right bloodied cheek hits the right windshield as the plane explodes.

The Flight of the Phoenix picture

Corrected entry: In many scenes of the interior of the original aeroplane, in Flight of the Phoenix, up to three fire extinguishers can be seen. These are red fire extinguishers and would therefore have contained water. One of the main issues in the film is the lack of water; it seems strange that no one takes advantage of this source of water.

Correction: With regard to the contents of the extinguisher of the period the operation is by use of a striker at the top breaking an acid filled glass vial, this mixes with the water which is laced with bicarbonate of soda. The fizzy reaction produces the gas pressure to drive it. You wouldn't want to drink a lot of water with sodium bicarbonate in it, that would just add to your thirst.

Doctor Zhivago picture

Corrected entry: Doctor Zhivago walks into his old frozen house and starts to write with an old fashioned pen and ink set. The ink is surprisingly not frozen while the rest of the house is.

manthabeat Premium member

Correction: Dr. Zhivago does not use the pen until several hours after they have been in the house and warmed-up the room. After first arriving at the icy house during the day, there is a fade to show the passage of time where it is now night and the woman and child are sleeping near a stove with a fire. The room is now completely thawed with no visible ice and that is when he begins to write with the pen.

The Heroes of Telemark picture

Corrected entry: When the glider crashes you hear aeroplane sounds and then it explodes like a bomb. A glider has no engine or fuel tanks.

Correction: The glider is being towed by the tow aeroplane which develops an engine fault, and they both crash. It is the tow plane that explodes.

Shenandoah picture

Corrected entry: In the scene where Doug McClure asks Jimmy Stewart to marry Katherine Ross, Jimmy starts hand-rolling a cigar. The shot goes back to Doug "Sir, I love her". The shot goes back to Jimmy and he's lighting up a perfectly wrapped, long, cylindrical stogie that Castro would be proud of. In five seconds? I think not.

Correction: By the time the shot changes to Doug McClure's line, Jimmy Stewart is nearly done. Just before the cut, you can see Stewart wetting the edge of the leaf to seal it off. When the camera returns to him, the cigar is finished and he's working on cutting it in half. All we missed was that very last step, which could have been done in the time allotted.

Von Ryan's Express picture

Corrected entry: At one point, the German train that has been hijacked by Allied prisoners is attacked by "German" aircraft. The planes are clearly not WWII aircraft or even replicas. They are modern civilian planes - probably Beechcraft, painted camouflage and bearing German insignia.

Correction: The answer is not entirely correct. The aircraft are copies of the Messerschmitt ME-108, a side by side, two seat liaison aircraft that resembles the ME-109 fighter in basic fuselage design. The movie "fighters" are, more than likely, postwar French built copies by the Morane Company. The post war French AF used them as did some other European countries.

The Bedford Incident picture

Corrected entry: When the Soviet destroyer is spotted in the Bedford's periscope, the name "NOVO SIBIRSK" is shown on the hull. Novosibirsk (a city in Siberia) is one word, and it would have been written in Cyrillic.

Correction: The Bedford is a destroyer and does not have a periscope. The Novosibirsk was a suppply ship and not a destroyer.

The Ipcress File picture

Corrected entry: The villain's Bentley is parked at the bottom of the steps from the Albert Hall, in front of a white Ford convertible - a Zephyr or Zodiac, quite a rare car even in those days. After Harry Palmer has a fight with the villain's sidekick, the Bentley speeds away, and we see the Ford still parked by the curb. Except now, it's dark blue.

Correction: Do you think they spraypainted the car while they shot the fight scene? There is easily enough time for the hite car to leave and the blue car to arrive during the very long fight scene.

The Greatest Story Ever Told picture

Corrected entry: During the crucifixion scene, Judas is shown to throw himself into a flame pit in the temple. Surely in accordance with the bible and long held belief he hanged himself.

Correction: Movies often make changes in the materials they are based on. The Bible itself has two conflicting accounts of Judas's death: According to Matthew 27.5, he hanged himself. According to Acts 1:18, he bought a field with the money he received for betraying Jesus and "falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

Cat Ballou picture

Corrected entry: After Lee Marvin sobers up and begins training with Jackson the Indian in the scene where Jackson is throwing objects up into the air for target practice, an airplane appears on the horizon in the shot of the first target object as the bullet hits the object.

Correction: The aeroplane is only visible if you freeze frame. Since freeze frame is required to see it, it does not fulfill the requirements of this site.
