Other mistake: During John-Boy's entrance exam at Boatwright University, when he's given the pamphlet and history test questions, note three of the questions include the contraction "it's" which is incorrect within those given questions. Each question should have used "its" without an apostrophe. Additionally, the sign on the University's wall reads "keep your eyes on you own paper" instead of "your own paper." (01:00:35)
Other mistake: While John and his sons are at the pig pen talking about Rover, in the first wideshot facing them all we can see the Baldwins' stationary car parked near the pen, waiting for the cue to move at the proper time. During their entire conversation nobody remarks or reacts to the Baldwins' car being right there, not until the second wideshot, just as the vehicle moves closer to the Walton house, and then everyone exclaims, "Baldwin sisters/ladies!" as if they just now showed up. Visible crew/equipment: After Esther scolds Zeb for falling asleep during the earlier sermon Ben tells John-Boy he wants to talk, and at the start of the next shot just as John walks to the truck, we can see black set equipment on wheels on the right side of the screen (in the next wide shot it's gone). Visible crew/equipment: At the start, when John-Boy walks into his house with a bag of groceries and the newspaper, just as he says hi to his mother the boom pole and mic are visible at the top, left corner of the screen. (00:01:45)
Visible crew/equipment: While Erin is in the kitchen arguing with Esther and Olivia about Lancelot's behavior, the wheel from set equipment is visible at the right side of the screen. (00:22:20)
Visible crew/equipment: While driving to the fair John-Boy tells Oscar it's the next turn on the right, then it cuts to two overhead shots of the fairgrounds, and in that second overhead shot we can see the crew's Panavision camera at the bottom right corner of the screen. As an aside, Panavision was founded in 1953. (00:28:40)
Visible crew/equipment: When Oscar and the Baldwin sisters get up to leave after their visit with the Walton family, they walk to the front door and we can see set equipment at the right side of the screen. Then when they get into the vehicle and start to drive away, the reflections of some crew members are visible on the vehicle windows. (00:10:20)
Visible crew/equipment: After Zeb retrieves the misplaced perfume from the Baldwin sisters, when he meets up with John-Boy on the road, the reflections of crew members are visible on the truck's windshield when John-Boy arrives, and also when he backs up the truck. (00:36:40)
Visible crew/equipment: When John and Esther go to the Baldwin house in search of Zeb, while John leans on the vehicle door talking to Esther, in the closeups the shadow of the moving boom mic is visible at the back of the truck. (00:17:10)
Visible crew/equipment: After all the children leave for school, the man from the electric company goes to the back of the Walton house to turn the power off, then while Olivia, Esther, and Zeb stand near the home John gets into the truck, and in the next shot of John in the truck we can see a crew member (who appears to be shirtless) through the windshield, walking around inside the barn (this cannot be anyone else other than a crew member). Visible crew/equipment: When Jody asks John-Boy about Chateau d'If in The Count of Monte Cristo, Harley drives up in the automobile he fixed, and in the two shots facing Jody by himself, the shadow of the moving boom mic is visible on the wood beam beside Jody. (00:26:20)
Visible crew/equipment: After John-Boy reads from the Count of Monte Cristo, everyone climbs down from the treehouse, and as Ben, Elizabeth, and Jim-Bob walks toward the Walton house, we can see a balding crew member wearing white pants, at the left side of the screen. (00:25:15)
Visible crew/equipment: After Olivia and Esther talk to Verdie about Harley, while they're all busy in the kitchen with the peaches, when it cuts to Harley walking we can see set equipment at the right side of the screen. (00:21:30)
Visible crew/equipment: When Verdie shows Harley the overalls for Jody, the reflection of the boom pole and mic are visible on the vehicle surface in the overhead shots. (00:19:25)
Visible crew/equipment: After Harley tells Verdie that he's an auto mechanic but things are slow, when Jim-Bob and Elizabeth rush over to John-Boy to tell him they can keep the peach tree, the shadow of the moving boom pole and mic is visible on the ground beside Jim-Bob, at the right side of the screen. Continuity mistake: When John-Boy finishes the roof repair he carries the ladder and places it beside the tree, then he notices the unlocked padlock on the garage door. In the closeup, the open lock is inserted through the latch facing the right, but in the wideshot the lock is inserted through the latch the opposite way. (00:25:25)
Visible crew/equipment: When John-Boy tells Mr. Rudge that he'd like to know all about his deceased son, during this touching scene there are closeups as Mr. Rudge's hand strokes the vehicle that belonged to his son, and we can see the reflection of the boom pole and mic, at least two crew members, filming equipment, and another vehicle on the polished chrome surface. (00:43:20)
Visible crew/equipment: While Erin is in the forest with Lancelot to set him free, once the doe runs off Erin gets up then bends over, and the bulging outline of the mic transmitter is visible at her back. (00:47:40)
