The Real Thing: Part 2 - S4-E2

Continuity mistake: In the previous episode Jennifer sees Ellen Reed for the first time while talking to Alex (when Alex is holding Andy). In this episode, she sees Alex viewing picture of Ellen and asks "who is Ellen Reed?" as if she had never seen her before. (00:12:10)

Suggested correction: It may be that Jennifer saw Ellen Reed, but at the time did not know her name was Ellen Reed, just a random girl Alex was with. Did Alex introduce her as Ellen Reed to Jennifer? I haven't seen this episode in decades, but this is just a possible theory.

I do know that some episodes of Family Ties did air out of order. So maybe that's why?

Fool for Love - S4-E15

Continuity mistake: In this episode, Mallory and Skippy are talking and Mallory starts a sentence with "remember when we were 2 years old..."? This is incorrect as an earlier season had an episode in a flashback when the Keatons just moved into their house and the kids were young and Skippy meets Mallory for the first time and instantly falls for her. Both Skippy and Mallory were about 5 or 6 years old in the scene so knowing each other at 2 years old was not possible.

Ready or Not - S2-E16

Character mistake: When Alex mentions to Mallory that he's had sex before, he tells her he was 17 and that it was leap year. Not correct, this event occurred in 1982 (during one of the first episodes when Alex was 17), which was not a leap year.

Show generally

Question: I remember an episode where Alex does the grocery shopping for the family and comes home with groceries and more money than when he started out. Elyse (Mom) says to Alex "I only gave you $20" and Alex replies that he used coupons and went on double coupon day or something like that and after the trip the store ended up owing him money. I can absolutely remember this part but have rewatched every episode (I think) recently and cannot find it. Does anyone else remember this part or episode?

Answer: A scene very similar to the one described happened on the show Mr. Belvedere that was on in the same time frame as when Family Ties was on. Perhaps this is what you are remembering.
