Continuity mistake: Tom Riddle says, "She won't wake" and walks toward Harry. When Harry says "Tom. Tom Riddle," the shot faces Harry and Ginny, and Harry's wand is lying on the open ground below the sole of Ginny's shoe. When Harry asks "Are you a ghost?" as the camera pans closer to Harry, his wand is conspicuously in a different place now, it is lying partially hidden under Ginny's robe above her right foot, right next to Harry. In the next shot after Riddle says, "A memory. Preserved...," the wand is gone from the previous shot's position. (Visible on DVD fullscreen.) (02:04:50)

Continuity mistake: When the Basilisk emerges from the water, in the first shot Harry looks at the Sorting Hat and Gryffindor's sword appears. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: When Harry walks over to the clock at the Burrow, in the wide shot, the hands are all pointing in a particular direction, then in the close-up, some of those hands change their position. However in the next wide shot, as Harry walks away, all of the hands are pointing in the same direction as in the previous wide shot. (00:11:05)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: In the Whomping Willow, the trunk of the car recieves a noticeable gash just above the lock on the trunk as well as a huge dent in the trunk. However just before the trunk pops open to eject Harry and Ron's belongings, it is blatantly apparent that it is not the same car trunk. The gash and dent are both gone, the Ford Anglia nameplate on the right side is gone, the lock is different, the area under the bent fender is different, etc. After the spider escape, though the nameplate is back, the dent and gash are still gone. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: In the Whomping Willow, the car door on Harry's side recieves a large ripped gash through the metal, along with other assorted gashes alongside it, as is visible when it opens to throw Harry out. Later, when Ron and Harry escape from the spiders, the metal's ripped gash and other dents/gashes (although the initial damage can get worse in the Dark Forest, it cannot change positions) on Harry's door or elsewhere are not only very different than the earlier shots, they are also different within the consecutive shots of this scene. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: As Aragog approaches Harry and Ron, Harry says, "Were friends of Hagrid's," and Harry carries the lantern palm side up, at his hip. Yet in the next shot, it's palm side down and the lantern handle is at his shoulder. In the next shot, though it's still at his shoulder it's palm side up now. Then in the two shots facing Aragog, the lantern is down low, but in between those two shots, in the shot facing Harry, his elbow is bent, the lantern is higher up and Fang stands further away. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: In Hagrid's home, when Lucius Malfoy holds out the order of suspension for Dumbledore to take, in the shot facing Malfoy the stiff ribbon ends point in his direction, yet, when the next shot faces Dumbledore, the ribbon ends now point towards Dumbledore. (01:40:15)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: Throughout the film, one of the young actors may have one or more pimples on their face, yet in the following shots which may take place only moments later, the pimples are gone, or visa versa. For example, when Hagrid joins Harry, Hermione and Ron outside when he overhears, "Mad and hairy...," Harry has one on his cheek. Neville tells them to rush to Harry's room. While Harry, whose own pimple has disappeared, searches the mess, the one on Ron's chin is visible, though it wasn't in the shot outside. Scenes are shot out of sequence, hence the erratic complexion continuity problem. (01:33:50 - 01:35:00)

Continuity mistake: At the Weasley table, twin 1 holds his Hogwarts letter and says, "This lot won't come cheap, mum," while twin 2 (who sits near Mr. Weasley) reaches in front of twin 1, to take his own Hogwarts letter that Percy hands him. In the next shot facing Harry and Ron, as twin 1 continues to say, "The spell books alone are very expensive," twin 2's hand reaches over twin 1 to get his Hogwarts letter from Percy, again, albeit a bit differently. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: While in the Slytherin common room, as Malfoy says, "But my father did say this," visible behind Crabbe/Ron and Goyle/Harry, there is a Slytherin striped scarf slung over the back of the chair. This scarf changes position when Ron/Crabbe jumps up and Harry/Goyle grabs him and in the very last overhead shot of Crabbe/Ron and Goyle/Harry as they run up the stairs. (01:24:00)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: When Hermione pours the Polyjuice potion into the glasses some of the thick liquid drips down to the top and side of the sink. In both the close-up of Harry's bubbling hand and the shot after the transformation of Goyle/Harry leaning his hands on the sink the Polyjuice potion drips are gone and the sink is clean. The towel near the window hangs differently in this shot, as well as the earlier overhead shot of Harry as he stands at the sink. (Visible on DVD fullscreen.) (01:19:35 - 01:20:45)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: As Ron and Harry stand in the girls' lavatory, Hermione gives them their glasses of Polyjuice potion. In the wide shot, Ron bends his left index finger to slip through the silver handle at the base of the glass and his right robe sleeve is way past his wrist as they proceed to put hair in the glasses. However in the close-up of Ron's hands, his index finger now goes through the handle the opposite way and a good amount of his right sweater sleeve shows under his robe too. Then when Hermione says, "Cheers," she holds the base of glass with the handle near her thumb, but no fingers go through it as she starts to drink the potion. Yet in her close-up she grips the glass completely differently. (01:19:40)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: In the hospital wing, as Madame Pomfrey removes the skull bottle top of the Skele-Gro and sets it down, she says, "But it'll be painful," and Harry actually smirks at her. In the next close-up, as she pours some Skele-Gro into a glass and places the bottle down, the skull top now faces the opposite way. In the following shot as she hands Harry the glass, the position of both the skull top and the bottle of Skele-Gro are quite obviously different than the previous close-up. (00:58:55)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: Hermione brews the Polyjuice potion, while she sits on the floor with her back to the sinks. When Ron says, "Lucius Malfoy must have opened it when he was at school here," Hermione sits close to the stone's edge on her right which is much closer to the pillar. As well as when Ron asks, "Why are we brewing this potion in broad daylight, in the middle of the girls' lavatory?" she sits closer to the pillar, at an angle. These differ from the other shots. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Continuity mistake: Errol makes a mess with the chips and when Ron deals with the Howler, the mess on the table differs depending on the camera angle. For example, when the Howler says, "Ronald Weasley! How dare...," there is one kind of mess and then when it says, "..and it's entirely your fault!" there is another mess, but when the Howler shreds itself, the mess is the same as the first shot. Continuity mistake: After transforming the bird into a water goblet, Professor McGonagall says, "Now it's your turn. Who would like to go first?" The Slytherin girl on the left has pigtails that start at her earlobes, though in the next shot the pigtails start much higher, at the top of her ears. (00:48:35)
