Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Continuity mistake: On 4/16/04, Belle mentions that she felt particularly close to the late Alice Horton, because she "never had a grandmother in [her] life." But although she has never been seen on-screen, the show has always indicated that Marlena's mother was still living. Marlena has visited her parents in Colorado, and her son Eric is supposed to be living with them. Recently, Belle even made hot cocoa for her mother, saying that she would do it the same way as "Grandma Evans."

Plot hole: On April 1, 2004, Marlena fell over the penthouse balcony and landed directly on Sami. The next week, everybody was talking about how Lucas saved Sami's life by pushing her out of the way of Marlena. But this makes no sense, as the collision couldn't possibly have been any worse than it was. So what exactly does everybody think Lucas did?

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Continuity mistake: Victor and Doug were both murdered on the night of Valentine's Day, which on the show lasted until the 3/11/04 episode. The next day started on 3/12/04, and turned out to be St. Patrick's Day when we saw Rex and Philip enjoying green beer at the Cheatin's Heart. We know that it was supposed to be the very next day, because characters talked about the murders that happened "last night." But the two holidays, shown here on sequential days, actually fall on February 14 and March 17, respectively.

Show generally

Plot hole: After Rex learned that he was not really a DiMera but in fact a Brady, he suddenly became "poor." But a lot of things don't add up. Firstly, after Tony died, there was never a funeral or a will reading shown, but it seems likely that the twins would have been left something. Secondly, Rex graduated from college in the spring of 2003 and is an incredible genius who invented a laser that turns coal into diamonds. So although he might be on his own financially, he should be able to get a pretty good job without much trouble, but there's no indication that he has even tried. But Rex being poor has instead become a significant plot device, because Bonnie does not want him to marry her daughter Mimi as a direct result of it.

Show generally

Continuity mistake: On 3/16/04, in John's hypnosis-induced vision, he reacted violently against the idea that Marlena might be the "Salem Slasher." But the serial killer has always been called either the "Salem Stalker" or just the "Salem Serial Killer." The Salem Slasher was actually the name used when Andre DiMera went on a killing spree in 1984.

Continuity mistake: In October, 2003, when the police and an ambulance were dispatched to Mickey and Maggie's house when the latter was being murdered, the address was 1313 Mockingbird Lane. But on 3/15/04, Mickey's return address on an envelope was 502 Riverside Drive.

Plot hole: After Doug was murdered, Belle told Shawn that Marlena could not have done it because she was with her at the time, which is a lie. Shawn believes her, though, thus quelling his suspicions that Marlena could be the killer. But there's one small problem. Shawn was with Belle on the balcony on 3/5/03 when he received his father's emergency page, leading him to call Bo and learn that his grandfather had been murdered. So there's no way Belle could claim to have been with her mother when the murder occurred; Shawn was with Belle himself.

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Continuity mistake: On 3/11/04, Marlena mentioned that Shawn Douglas is twenty one years old. But that's not in keeping with either of his timelines. He was really born on April 6, 1987, so he should only be sixteen right now. But he was aged previously, and graduated from high school at age eighteen in 2002. Even so, he should still be only twenty at most right now, and more likely nineteen if he still has the same birthday.

Continuity mistake: In March, 2004, Jan Spears was at the Kiriakis mansion after she murdered Victor, and at some point her hair suddenly went from being curly to being completely straight.

Plot hole: Why has nobody investigated where all of this dramatic blood comes from? Kate's wedding cake was full of blood, blood was poured on Tony, and the flowers at Tuscany had been dipped in blood on Valentine's Day. Yet the origin of this blood was never explained.

Show generally

Continuity mistake: At the end of the 3/1/04 episode, Mimi was talking to her mother Bonnie on the phone. Bonnie told Mimi that she needed her to come home to help her right away because her son Patrick was back in town. Mimi asked why her mother needed her help with that. We didn't hear Bonnie's end of that conversation, but whatever she told Mimi alarmed her enough to cut her romantic evening with Rex short. At the beginning of the 3/2/04 episode, Mimi was back at her mother's house, but was still asking to know why it was so important for her to be home, as if Bonnie hadn't told her over the phone.

Show generally

Continuity mistake: On 2/27/04, Julie made a phone call and told the person on the other end that Doug believed he knew the serial killer's identity, and only then did she directly address the person as Marlena. On 3/1/04, when Marlena flashed back to the conversation, Julie immediately greeted her by name before explaining Doug's situation.

Continuity mistake: On 2/24/04, Marlena struck repeatedly with her knife when she stabbed Jan, thinking it was Shawn. But when Jan reached Nicole on 2/26/04, she had only a single stab wound.

DavidK93

Show generally

Plot hole: The week of 2/23/04, Marlena tried to kill Shawn by stabbing him to death while he slept, but Jan was in the bed instead. By this time, Marlena had killed seven people, several of them by slashing. So she was a skilled and accomplished killer. Yet somehow, when she was done with Jan, Jan was in good enough health to get out of Shawn's apartment, get out of that building, walk to the Kiriakis mansion, and get upstairs to Nicole's bedroom.

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Revealing mistake: On 1/26/04, the big, muscular animal handler was struck very lightly in the back of the shoulder, with what looked like a flimsy rubber or plastic object, and fell unconscious. It's ludicrous to imagine that such a weak "blow" could even injure that man at all, let alone knock him out.

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Continuity mistake: On 1/20/04, John mentions to Brady that Tony framed him for murder years ago and sent him to death row. But that's not true at all. We now know that it was really Andre, Tony's identical cousin, who did that. John couldn't possibly have forgotten such a thing, because the man killed himself to accomplish the frame-up, and Tony isn't dead.

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Plot hole: On 1/13/04, Marlena provides what may be the deciding testimony in Tony's hearing. Marlena is introduced to the court as a "criminal psychiatrist," despite never before being credited with that specialty. Her brief statement had nothing to do with psychiatry or the facts of the case, and didn't even provide any insight of the sort that a character witness might. She basically said, "I don't think Tony is the murderer." I don't see how this would have any bearing on the case, or would even be admissible.

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Plot hole: On 1/13/04, John scoffs at Marlena's belief that the ghosts of Roman and Abe spoke to Celeste. This seems odd, given that John exorcized Satan from Marlena and then God brought her back to life after she died, back in 1995.

Continuity mistake: On 1/12/03, Jennifer says that Dr. Bader listened to her baby's heartbeat two weeks ago. But Jennifer found out that she was pregnant on Christmas Eve, and the 1/12/03 episode took place on New Year's Day, just one week later.

Days of Our Lives (1965)

Show generally

Continuity mistake: At Roman and Kate's wedding ceremony and thereafter (December, 2003 - January, 2004), Sami made frequent reference to the fact that Marlena and Roman are "still married in the eyes of God," presumably a reference to the fact that the Catholic church does not condone divorce. With no shortage of characters who wanted Sami to just shut up, why did nobody bring up the fact that Marlena married and divorced Don Craig several years before she married Roman, and is therefore married only to him "in the eyes of God" if one insists on using that standard?
