Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: The sheriff and Dewey are talking; one is smoking and the other has a cone. When the sheriff says that "it's been confirmed", Dewey takes a mouthful of ice cream, but at the cut he does it again, with perfectly clean lips and without having even the time to swallow the previous. Since the joke is that he takes a mouthful each time the sheriff takes a puff of smoke, he takes one too many, one before and one after the cut. (00:59:50)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Randy wonders with Stu if Sidney may go out with him now that Billy kinda outed himself as a killer. Stu goes through extensive Matthew Lillard-isms hunching forward, but in the next shot when he answers deadpan "No. I don't. At all." he's standing straight. (00:56:15)

Scream (1996)

Character mistake: Sidney asks on the porch why Cotton couldn't prove that he was having an affair with her mom. Tatum's answer is "Well, you can't prove a rumor. That's why it's a rumor." That's quite the preposterous answer, especially since the point she wants to make is that it was not in fact 'just' a rumor.

Suggested correction: Tatum isn't trying to argue with Sidney. Tatum agrees that she doesn't know the truth about her mother's infidelity and certainly can't prove anything. Rather, what Tatum is trying to tell her - gently and somewhat indirectly - is that she believes the rumors, which is distinct from knowing the facts.

Continuity mistake: When Dewey says "I'm 25 years old" to Gale, three people are coming down the stairs behind him. Next shot and they already went way past Gale. Same in the closing part of the scene as she says "Please, call me Gale!" and the guy above Dewey who is going up the stairs passes her by. (00:48:55 - 00:50:15)

Continuity mistake: Mr. Himbry calls the two expelled students "Desensitized little sh*ts", pointing the open scissors at him. In the next shot he's looking at him but he changed position, since the scissors are gone from frame. (00:45:20)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Sidney bumps into Billy around the corner after she walked away from Tatum and Stu at the lockers. Behind Billy there's a short-haired student with a sleeveless striped top that turns the corner followed by a long-haired brunette. The two extras appear again in the next shot behind Sidney, taking almost 10 seconds to walk 2 meters. (00:43:00)

Continuity mistake: When Sidney tells Tatum to wait "Just a second" because she's going to talk to Gale outside school, Rose McGowan's bag has slipped off her shoulder during the take, but in the next shot she's wearing it properly. (00:39:55)

Continuity mistake: Sidney is in Tatum's bedroom. Tatum is playing with her rabbit toy while Sidney turns the other way. Look at the notebook, pen, ice pack. Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: When Tatum comforts Sidney telling her "I'm gonna get you out of here, okay?" in the background her brother comes out of the door holding the 'Father Death' costume box. The sheriff by him is holding an orange paper, but at the cut he's got his hand behind his back, no orange slip. (00:35:00)

Scream (1996)

Stupidity: Dewey and Sidney jumpscare each other at the front door. There's just no possible logical reason for a deputy (or ANYONE) to be holding the mask the way Dewey is in the scene. If he were leaning against the door, he would have lost his balance or reacted in any way to the door shifting. (00:30:30)

Suggested correction: Perhaps he was going to knock on the door with the mask. And Dewey didn't call out for Sidney.

lionhead

I am not sure who would almost-but-not-quite knock with his hand wrapped in a mask and holding perfectly still keeping the pose, facing the opposite direction. It's a pose completely unnatural especially looking frozen and not in the middle of something else. (I amended the part about calling out, it was wrongly phrased since I wanted to say the exact opposite, thanks!).

Sammo

He was about to knock on the door and was then looking behind him, probably heard a noise. He ain't the most solid type either.

lionhead

I personally think this is a good stupidity entry. The stupidity section exists for stuff that isn't technically mistakes, but is still irksome or just silly. And this fits that. It's good for a quick jump scare, but doesn't really add up. It's a piece of evidence, so he probably wouldn't be touching it anyways, the way he's holding it is completely unnatural (nobody holds a mask they just picked up off the ground like that), and it's conveniently held at exactly the right height and position to be in Sidney's face when she opens the door. The movie was flying in the face of basic logic to manufacture a quick scare. And it's effective in context... but it doesn't really make sense if you dissect the scene.

Continuity mistake: The gang is chatting about the murders and their interrogations. Stu responds "There's no way a girl could have killed them" to Tatum's complaint that nobody asked her if she likes to hunt. In these two shots, Rose McGowan's hair is wildly different. (00:20:00)

Continuity mistake: When Tatum asks "Why would they ask you if you like to hunt?" look at the blue backpack. Next shot, and the light is on it in a different position than before. The position of the various actors as they eat grapes also changes. (00:19:50)

Scream (1996)

Revealing mistake: Sidney is teasing Billy, and as a sort-of-reward to him she flashes him before he goes. That's the idea, but in the view from behind you can actually see through the nightie the shoulderstrap of a bra. (00:16:55)

Sammo

Suggested correction: Could she have had a bra that undoes at the front and quickly flashed him?

To actually answer the question; her hand is on full display, holding the nightie open. She'd still have to open the bra. You can technically argue that you can't see her other hand, which she could be simultaneously maneuver to pull down the cup of the bra and expose a nipple, since there's hardly any time to undo it fully and she'd have to fasten it back afterwards. Or that cupless bras exist. Truth is, she opens her casual, normal, comfy nightwear during the unexpected visit of her boyfriend, and the way the scene is shot leaves no room to interpretation.

Sammo

This is a question, not a correction.
