Character mistake: When the guard lets the nurse in Klaatu's hospital room with his meal, he rushes in as though he already knows something is wrong instead of just letting her in.

Stripes (1981)

Stupidity: When Capt. Stillman orders the soldier to launch the live mortar shell without verifying the coordinates, it lands way off course where Sgt. Hulka and his platoon are training, almost killing them. This would have been a court-martial offense for Capt. Stillman, not to mention the national media coverage it would have generated. But Capt. Stillman retains his position without any consequences.

Suggested correction: Realistically, of course. But this is a comedy. Stupid things are supposed to happen to add to the humour. I mean later in the movie, they steal a top secret military vehicle and use it to cross into Eastern Europe. They should all go to jail for life. But of course, that would be a really bad ending for a comedy.

Factual error: Kirk and crew watch V'ger approach the Starfleet monitoring station, Epsilon Nine, at the beginning of the movie from the recreation deck. However, after the station has been destroyed, they are still receiving imagery from that location.

Other mistake: Superman is always seen with his arms extended when he flies, but when he lands, it's always feet first. He's never seen changing his position to account for this.

Common mistakes

Factual error: Whenever police officers are involved in some kind of shooting while on duty, they are always kept on the case. They're never suspended or investigated by internal affairs. In real life, there's a full on investigation that takes months to make certain the officer in question was justified in the shooting, not to mention the intense media scrutiny surrounding the incident.

Infestation - S1-E3

Stupidity: So "Dr. Smith" runs into her sister's boyfriend on the Resolute and pushes him into an airlock when he figures out who she is. The door immediately closes and a countdown to purge the airlock ensues. Who would design an airlock to do that? What if someone went in there by mistake or was doing some maintenance on it? To make it worse, there's no override inside the airlock? It's located in the corridor.

This Side of Paradise - S1-E25

Plot hole: When Captain Kirk is the last person unaffected by the spores, he's on the bridge lamenting the fact that he is trapped in orbit above the planet since he can't pilot the ship alone. He also can't call for help because Lt. Uhura sabotaged long range communications. but Captain Kirk has somehow forgotten about the shuttle craft. He could have easily escaped on one of those.

Meatballs (1979)

Deliberate mistake: In the basketball scene against Camp Mowhawk, the Mowhawk players' shorts have been pulled down a little, making it easier for the Camp Northstar players to pull them down all the way.

Other mistake: At the beginning of movie when Indy is about to steal the gold idol, the camera does a close-up of it. The idol has been in a decaying temple for hundreds of years. but it appears shiny and new, as though just placed there. You'd expect the idol to at least be dusty or covered in jungle debris.
