Jarhead (2005)

Factual error: When Swofford is burning the sh*tters, he says he used diesel fuel and matches. In reality, diesel fuel will not burn with matches, like we see it do in the film.

Revealing mistake: When the T-800 is reloading his shotgun in the alley with John, he reaches into his pocket, presumably to grab shells for the shotgun. In the shot with him and John in frame, his hand comes out of his pocket empty, but we hear him load another shell into the gun in the next shot.

Factual error: The M1 Garands throughout the film all have post-War era rear sights. The type used during WW2 were called "Lock Bar," distinguished by a "bar" that ran across the right sight knob. M1 Garands manufactured or refurbished after WW2 will lack these types of sights.

Feet First (1930)

Visible crew/equipment: Just before Harold gets his hands caught in a window, a crew member can be seen gesturing his hands to keep raising the window cleaning gantry.

The Highwaymen (2019)

Factual error: When Maney and Frank are chasing Bonnie and Clyde in a dusty field, Maney (Woody Harrelson) fires his Colt Peacemaker revolver. His first shot is CG since the gun fires without him cocking the hammer. The Colt Peacemaker is a single action revolver, requiring the hammer to be cocked each time in order to fire the gun.

Ford v Ferrari (2019)

Factual error: When Ken is in a room seeing a brand new Ford engine being tested, he and a Ford engineer are wearing hearing protection. The protection being earmuffs, which look way too modern for the 1960s. They have a detachable earmuff, which wasn't introduced until decades later.

The Rookie (2018)

Greenlight - S1-E16

Factual error: Captain Anderson pulls a suspect underwater and shoots him. There's a bright, yellow flash under the water. In reality, this wouldn't happen, only a large amount of bubbles would appear, but no flash.

Stripes (1981)

Factual error: Francis "Psycho" points a knife at Winger. Weapons of any kind are absolutely prohibited in basic training. Granted he could've smuggled it in, but it most likely wouldn't make it past the shakedown part when arriving at basic. The Army and Marines prohibit weapons of any kind in basic training.

Overlord (2018)

Continuity mistake: Just before the Paratroopers are about to make the jump on D-Day, they hook up their static lines, including Boyce. When Boyce is pushed out of the aircraft by Ford, his static line is stuffed to the back of his parachute.

Factual error: During the final fight at Ramelle, Mellish and Henderson are displacing from their first machine position to the next; almost getting shot by a Tiger tank gun. When they run, Henderson grabs the barrel of the 1919A4 Browning Machine Gun. He had just fired a long burst, the barrel would be too hot to grab it.

Overlord (2018)

Factual error: During the plane, pre-drop scenes, the paratroopers are wearing their Airborne chinstraps. Which is a chin cup, used in addition to the stand M1 Helmet chinstrap to keep the helmet secure during jumps. The one in the film is made of cotton, canvas; most during World War II would be made of leather. The cotton ones are either late war or perhaps post-war issue.

Matdan97

Factual error: When the Marines are in Vietnam, most of them have the M-69 flak jacket. This body armor was first issued in 1969, while the rest of the film takes place in early 1968. In addition, the vest would've been largely issued to the Army, not the Marines. Their vest would've been the M-55, which is different in shape and design.

Matdan97

Factual error: When 007 is briefed inside the submarine, there would be no space available to have spacious offices, wooden desks, and book shelves. Most of the space within a sub would be taken up by the equipment necessary for it to function. In addition, such features (desks, chairs, etc.) would add a considerable amount of weight and be difficult to get inside in the sub in the first place.

The Goonies (1985)

Factual error: When the Fratellis break Jake out of jail, Francis shoots a trail of gasoline on the ground with his pistol, which lights it. In reality, this wouldn't happen, more than likely the bullet would bounce of the ground or embed itself, but not cause any sparks (if it caused any, wouldn't be long or hot enough to ignite) to light the gas.

Call of Duty: WW2

Factual error: Sergeant Pierson has an M1928 Thompson with a 50 drum magazine throughout the game's campaign. By 1944, the M1/M1A1 Thompson would've been standardized for most soldiers and Marines. And even if he didn't get the M1 variants, he should be using 30 round box magazines instead of the drums. The box/stick magazines were more reliable and lighter than the drums, and would've completely replaced them by 1944.

Revealing mistake: When we see the new recruits at boot camp, they are wearing M1 Helmets. But if you look closely, they have rivets through the sides of each helmet where the chinstrap bales would be. In reality, the M1 helmet chinstrap bales were and continued to be welded onto the shell of the helmet. This indicates the helmets in the film are probably plastic replicas with the bales being riveted in place.

Windtalkers (2002)

Factual error: Throughout the film, Joe Enders is wearing an M1 Helmet. But his helmet looks like a non-WW2 type and possibly Vietnam era. From the side of the helmet, it is a higher cut along the sides. This is a usual indicator to the era of the helmet, as WW2 M1 helmets are lower along the ears for better protection.

Shutter Island (2010)

Factual error: When U.S. troops arrive at the concentration camp, they are wearing M1941 Field Packs. These were developed by the United States Marine Corps and were only used by Marines, not the Army. The standard pack systems used by the Army would've been the M1928 Haversack or M1936 "Musette" Bag.

Call of Duty: WW2

Factual error: During the beach invasion cut scene, several soldiers have helmet bands with photos and cigarette packets secured to it. In reality, this was not done during World War II; would've been done extensively during the Vietnam War, but not in World War II.
