Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Lethal Weapon 2 mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When the bathroom explodes, from one angle we see the toilet come sailing out over the roof of a police truck parked at the front of the house. While the angles make it a bit tricky to judge, there's a definite leftward trajectory. We then cut to a closeup of Murtaugh's car, and the toilet lands on it as if it was flying to the right. Even if the angles are misleading, in the first shot the police truck and other cars are parked to the right of the exploding window. In the shot of Roger's car he's also parked to the right, but without all the cars visible around it which there should be. (00:57:15)

Suggested correction: The toilet is flying straight out and straight towards the car - you can see this from the perspective of the interior of the car prior to the toilet becoming visible. Next the toilet is flying towards the area in front of the police van, not over it. And the car is parked in front of the van. When we see the car again, the van and other police cars are out of frame, so they can't be seen.

ReRyRo

The mistake is valid. When we see the toilet flying, it's moving to the viewer's left, but when it hits the car, it's moving to the viewer's right now. Even if in the first shot, with the angle of the camera, the toilet is flying straight, it doesn't hit the car straight on. And he's not saying the toilet sails over the roof, but that you can see the toilet in the background is above the roof of the van in the foreground and that's moving over it (from right to left).

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Corrected entry: In the opening scene when Riggs and Murtaugh are driving through the tunnel, Riggs states over the radio that they are "East bound, on foot..." when they are driving a vehicle. (00:00:40)

Correction: He says "we're east bound on Fourth", not foot.

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Corrected entry: When Riggs confronts the South Africans in the Embassy, he beats up two of them before aiming his gun at Arjen, Vorstedt, and the two other remaining South Africans. However, after he shoots the fish tank, there are three South Africans scrambling to pick up the fish as Arjen directs them, and Vorstedt was not one of them (he remained standing ahead of the tank). No-one else could have entered the room, and it isn't plausible that either of the two that Riggs viciously beat would've recovered so quickly.

Correction: First off, no one was "viciously beat" by Riggs. He head-butted one guy and kicked the second guy (not hard, just enough to push him away causing him to fall). However, before he shoots the fishtank, we see the guy who got head-butted get up when Vorstedt snaps his fingers.

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Corrected entry: When Rika hands Rudd his morning faxes they are not faxes but printed sheets folded in the middle. Plus, in those days faxes would have been thermo printed and shown a tendency to roll up, since, as she said, they had just arrived in the morning. (00:48:00)

Correction: Not all fax machines in 1989 used thermal paper. In 1985 GammaLink introduced a computer based fax board, and by 1989 other companies, such as Xerox, allowed fax machines to be linked to computers with add-on PC boards which allowed users to view (and print) fax information from their computers. Even if that wasn't the case, a file clerk or secretary may have made photocopies of the faxes to prevent them from rolling or being damaged.

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Corrected entry: Right before a chase ensues near the stilt house, at the point where the hotel waiter hijacks a flatbed truck at gunpoint, notice how its passenger side door has no mirror (all it's got is a metal assembly, no mirror). But moments later when Riggs climbs along the truck and tries to get a better look him, he does so through a passenger side mirror. How did it get there in the midst of a chase? (00:39:30 - 00:40:30)

ryguy_1983

Correction: The tow truck has a passenger side door mirror the entire time. You see the mirror when the gunman says "give me your keys" and even when he's getting into the driver seat. There is a shot when the door is open and you only see the metal support, but the mirror is still there.
