Revealing mistake: Near the end they land on the island. After they cross a bridge a soldier shoots an explosive and blows up a machine gun position. Just after that, look at the muzzle of Highway's rifle. It isn't open like it should be but has a type of plug to ensure only blanks can be used.

Continuity mistake: The crop duster takes off to spray the spider hills. He is attacked in the plane by spiders and starts to fly erratically. The camera shows the spider lady, the vet and others from behind through an open shed door. They are standing in the open. The next shot shows the spider lady and the vet up close from the front and they are now in front of the shed wall. Just before the plane crashes they are shown from the shed again and they are all in the open again.

Continuity mistake: When they walk up to the spider hill to burn it, the rancher sticks a pitchfork in the ground straight up and starts pouring gas on the hill. The next scene shows a spider crawling into a hole. When it goes back to showing the rancher pouring gas, the pitchfork is now at an angle.

mrfrede

Continuity mistake: The spider lady and the vet go to the rancher's place to burn out the spider hill. While there, a bull runs out and collapses. While the spider lady is talking to the rancher's wife, her hands are by her side. When the camera switches to the wife's point of view, the spider lady's hands are in her coat pockets. When the view switches back, her hands are by her side again.

Godzilla (1998)

Factual error: A sergeant is neither called sir nor is saluted. Sergeant O'Neal is called sir twice and saluted twice. The first time is shortly before they dump the fish for bait the first time. Someone runs up to O'Neal, says sir and salutes him. He says something about ten minutes then salutes him again and runs away. The second time is when O'Neal is on the roof and looks over the parapet and sees Zilla walking past. Right after that someone comes up to him and says "Sir, Godzilla has been spotted in section five."

Suggested correction: Sergeants, just like any other military member of a higher rank than the person doing the saluting, are called sir as well as saluted.

Not true. Sergeants are non-commissioned officers. They are respected for experience and expertise but they are not saluted first or called Sir. (Some services will have Drill Sergeants or Platoon Sergeants addressed as Sir by recruits in basic training but that's not happening here).

Them! (1954)

Continuity mistake: When they go to visit the trailer, Pat is surprised by an ant on a bluff. When they shoot it, it falls with it's head just over the edge and two bushes in front of it. They switch to a camera angle from behind the ant and now its head is further back and there is a large white rock in front of the ant's head.

Other mistake: About seven minutes before the end, the geologist and company and a Highway Patrol car go to the edge of town to get a better view. As the Highway Patrol car skids to a stop look on the road and there is already a longer skid mark. I'm guessing that in the first take the car skidded too far.

Question: With so many bank accounts under a phony name, where were all the monthly bank statements going?

mrfrede

Answer: Bank statements weren't mailed as they were in more recent times. In those days, when you went to the bank, a passbook or ledger was updated and provided to you. Remember, in those times everything was hand-written and manually recorded. Statements weren't created automatically and mass-mailed.

Chosen answer: Possibly post office boxes, or maybe even to the prison directly.

This Island Earth (1955)

Character mistake: After Cal goes to the secret lab in Georgia, he and two others go into his new lab. When they enter a cat jumps up on the counter. Dr. Adams says "This is Neutron. We named him that because he's so positive." Neutrons are neutral and electrons are negative. It's protons that are positive. They should have named the cat Proton.
