Correction: After watching the scene, there's nothing to indicate any crew member in the rear view mirror. The only thing you see is Murtaugh's head and vehicles/building passing by. Even in the side mirror there's no obvious crew member (the area was surrounded by on-lookers and cops and what seems to be someone in the side mirror could be one of them).

That wasn't Murtaugh's head. The person in the rear view mirror was somebody else. Whether that was a crew member, who knows? However, that definitely wasn't Murtaugh.
