Friday the 13th (1980)

Question: Maybe I've missed the reason, but why is the film called Friday the 13th? I'm sure there is never any reference to that date, so why be titled this?

Hamster

Chosen answer: Just after the credits, there's a bank sign that says "Friday, 13 - 7:01 - 60 Degrees". Then the DJ says "It's 7:01 on Friday the 13th of June." and goes on to say some more about it and lists some other bad luck superstitions. At two other points in the movie, two characters (Ralph and Tierney) say "it's Friday the 13th". So there are at least four references to the fact that the movie takes place on Friday the 13th.

Answer: Sean Cunningham was the one who had an idea for a horror film called "Friday the 13th", because he really felt like it was a can't miss film title. He got with Victor Miller about making a horror film similar to "Halloween" and Miller began writing a script. Miller had titled the first draft "Long Night at Camp Blood", but he admits he's never been good at coming up with titles, so this was just a working title. Cunningham had called Miller and told him he wants to name the film "Friday the 13th" and Miller said "That's great. Unfortunately, there's no reason for that." To which Cunningham replied with "Stick one in." (Which is why there's a few references to the date in the film.) Cunningham was so sure of the film's title that he put an ad in Variety magazine in July before any sort of production of the film had begun.

Answer: Another reason is in the scene where Pamela is talking to Alice she mentions that today was Jason's birthday, Friday the 13th.

Answer: I do not recall any answer, definitive or otherwise, been given to your question. Originally the film was to be called 'Long Night at Camp Blood'. I have no idea why it was changed. Or why the new title was chosen. However the film is set on a Friday the 13th. And it is mentioned as such after the credits when Annie is walking through the town. On the radio, the DJ says as much.

Answer: After Barry and Claudette was killed by young Pamela in 1958, it then flashes white to Crystal Lake and words in the bottom saying "Friday June 13 The Present." Present means the year 1979.

Last Action Hero (1993)

Question: On IMDB it says in this film there are some INTENTIONAL continuity errors. Does anyone know any of the intentional errors, perhaps along with a timecode?

Hamster

Chosen answer: The kid points them out in the film, in order to convince Arnold's character that he inhabits movieland. Also, after Arnold's character falls into the tar pit he is able to completely wipe himself clean, an obvious intentional continuity error.

Question: The Joke about the sheriff's hat getting bigger - is it from a film or any other source?

Hamster

Chosen answer: This is a spoof of a scene in the movie Signs by M. Night Shyamalan.

Question: Why does the female police sheriffs hat get bigger when she climbs into the car? Is it a joke?

Hamster

Chosen answer: Yes, it's just a joke that her hat gets bigger throughout the scene, until it is so huge that it can barely fit into the car.

Answer: Apparently it's from the movie Signs?

Cube 2: Hypercube (2002)

Question: On the Region 2 DVD, Hypercube, it has the trailer, with a couple of scene's I've never picked up in the film, despite watching itrepeatedly. Also on the back of the DVD is a picture of someone, Max I think, lying down wearing some sort of blue glasses. But the Region 2 DVD has no deleted scenes on it. Where they just cut then never released? Or are there deleted scene available anywhere?

Hamster

Chosen answer: I don't know of the picture you are speaking about, but I do have a DVD that my dad got in Saudi Arabia that has all the features. It has Making Of, Interviews, Commentary, and Deleted Scenes. The deleted scenes are pretty much just extended or slightly different to the ones that are in the movie. There is an extended ending that is considerably longer, but has bad acting (mainly by the black man in charge) and elaborates a bit more on the whole government thing. It mentions "Phase 2 complete" which could mean more phases (hopefully). The others extend the 'Razorcube' scene, the 'two rooms coming together' scene, and the 'figuring out and jumping' scene. The DVD and the box don't mention the Region but it has "For sale or resale in Usa and Canada", so all I know is that it isn't region 4, where I am.

Scream (1996)

Question: On the phone Tatum says to Sydeny "I was thinking Tom Cruise, all the right moves. You know if you pause it right you can see his penis." What's that all about?

Hamster

Chosen answer: In 1983, Tom Cruise made a movie called All The Right Moves. Supposedly, as Tatem says, if you pause it at one point in a certain scene, you can see Cruise's little buddy.

Scary Movie 3 (2003)

Chosen answer: Though I couldn't find any reference to those movies being spoofed, I think it's probably a case of people adding their own meaning to something really obscure - for instance, someone claimed (on the IMDB boards) that in the spoofed "Ring" video when the woman jumps off the cliff and hits a tree, it's a reference to a Madonna music video where she has black hair and a dress, and falls. It isn't.

Cube (1997)

Question: Anyone who has the Cube DVD, is it really true that if you put the DVD disc upside down in your player, that there is another film on it?

Hamster

Chosen answer: Having just tried it with my copy (Region 1), no, it doesn't appear to be true.

Tailkinker

Answer: I have heard that you can often have a short film by the same director on the other side of the DVD.

Simple way to tell is if there's printing on top. For a DVD to be double sided, both sides will have the same blank shiny surface. Any writing, like the name of the film, etc. will render the top level unreadable.

Question: Can you still get this film in 3D? I heard that it's only in 2D now, but does anyone actually know if there's a DVD that has it in 3D?

Hamster

Chosen answer: It's was finally released in 3D on DVD in 2009.

Answer: Friday the 13th Part III in 3D is also available on Blu-ray as part of a set of all the films from 1980 to the reboot. I know because I own it. There are two pairs of 3D glasses included in the tin.
