The Grudge

Other mistake: When Sarah Michelle Gellar is on the bus with her boyfriend, she sees Kayako face looking at her in the window reflection and panics. When she looks back at the window she sees the normal reflection of her face. Trouble is, her reflection is turning her head and looking side to side, whilst Gellar herself is looking straight and not moving her head at all.

Continuity mistake: When Karen goes into the cupboard upstairs, prior to meeting Toshio, she picks up a book. In one shot she picks it up by the page side, then when it cuts she is holding the spine side. (00:17:40)

Revealing mistake: When the detectives were listening to the message on the answering machine, we heard it say the date was Thursday and states a time the message was left. When the camera shows the answering machine, you can see the display blinking between 1 (the current message) and CL (which indicates the time and date have not yet been set).

Trivia: The Saeki family, the ghost family that haunts and terrorizes everyone who enter their home, are no strangers to the Grudge franchise. They played the same characters in the movie Ju-On, the Japanese version of The Grudge.

Detective Nakagawa: It is said in Japan that when a person dies in extreme sorrow or rage, the emotion remains, becoming a stain upon that place. Death becomes a part of that place, killing everything it touches. Once you have become a part of it, it will never let you go.

Karen: There is something evil there.

Detective Nakagawa: Three years ago, three of my colleagues were investigating what happened in that house. Two died mysteriously. The third was never found.

Question: How exactly does the father kill the wife? I noticed when she comes down the stairs she comes out of a bloody bag. So how is she killed?

Chosen answer: Well, in the Japanese original (Ju-On: The Grudge), it shows that Takeo, the father, killed his wife by shoving a knife down her throat or something similar to that. When he was killing her, she tried to scream, except her scream came out all messed up (because the knife hit the vocal chords), which explains the horrible croaking noise. There's no doubt about it that it's the way she was killed in this version.

Answer: Another website states that after pushing her down, Kayako sprained her ankle and crawled down the stairs, only to realise Takeo was slowly following her from behind watching her suffer. He then snapped her neck, but she was still alive and could only make the croaking noise. It is also implied that he stabbed her multiple times afterwards, which could explain the bloody corpse.

Question: How come Karen goes into the past to see the husband kill his wife and son?

Chosen answer: I don't think she actually went back into the past, I think it was just the house showing her what happened, or at least a type of visual echo of what happened. After all, some pretty strange stuff was happening in that house.

Question: At the beginning of the movie, the elderly woman is being looked after in the house. How is this so when her son hasn't bought the house yet?

Leprechaun

Chosen answer: The scenes showing her son buying the house later in the movie are flashbacks showing the viewers how they came to live there. The timeline of the movie goes back and forth several times.
