Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie when the crew are in the boats going after Moby Dick, the sky changes throughout the entire scene. At moments it is sunny, then cloudy, then overcast.

Continuity mistake: During the first "Nantucket Sleigh Ride" with the very first whale harpooned, one of the three ships attached to the whale must cut their rope to save a man who falls overboard. In the following shot, there should only be two taught ropes attached to the whale, but there are still the original three.

Trivia: During the filming at sea, Gregory Peck (Captain Ahab) nearly drowned several times during the whale-hunting scenes in which he had to participate. As a result, by the time the movie was finished, he and director John Huston were no longer on speaking terms.

Trivia: The fake white whale used kept sinking, breaking, and had to be continuously rebuilt, leading to budget overruns and schedule delays.
