Factual error: In the closing scene, E.J. Bellocq pictures Hattie and Violet with a Kodak Portrait Brownie No. 2. The Kodak Portrait Brownie No. 2 was not introduced until 1929, a dozen years after the movie takes place.

Nell: There's only two things to do on rainy days, and I don't like to play cards.

Bellocq: Leave me alone.
Violet: You hate me.
Bellocq: I have no time for hate or love.

Bellocq: Her father unknown, and her mother deserted the child.
Violet: My mother's name was Hildegarde. Hildegarde Marr. M-A-R-R.
Priest: And she was Caucasian, or other?
Violet: She was a whore, Father.

Question: How is the underage nudity legal? I mean how was it legal to show underage nudity in the movie? How is it not child pornography?
