Continuity mistake: At the end of "Casino Royale," Bond is wearing a three-piece suit. Although "Quantum of Solace" begins just minutes later, Bond is wearing a completely different two-piece suit.
Continuity mistake: After Bond throws Mathis into the dustbin, the position of Mathis's arm changes. In one shot, it lies in the dustbin; in the next shot, it lies on the edge of the dustbin. (01:04:05)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning, during the car chase, the lorry has its tyre shot out and smashes into the wall, breaking its wing mirror. When it steers back across the road, the wing mirror is in its original, unbroken state.
Continuity mistake: In the scene on Haiti, before Camille gets on the boat, she talks with Dominic Green and has her hands on his shoulders. However, the positions change between shots - from shoulders to upper arm and back again. (00:25:05)
Continuity mistake: When Bond is talking to Mathis at a table at the cottage in Italy, pay attention to the watch on Mathis' wrist. First, it faces the side of his wrist because that way it is best shown on screen, but in the next shot, still at the table, it suddenly faces the outside of his wrist, like watches are usually worn. Continuity mistake: When Bond is on the plane with Mathis and asks the waiter for his usual drink, between shots, Mathis' hair changes. In some shots, there's a lock of hair on his left, down by his eye. In some shots, he's got two bits of hair loose on his right. And in others, his hair's all in place. All this without him ever touching it.
Continuity mistake: During the scene where Mathis dies in Bond's arms, the position of Mathis' head changes between some of the shots.
Continuity mistake: When Bond is talking to M, his shirt collar is out of the blazer, then back in, then out again; all in a space of 30 seconds. (00:08:40)
Continuity mistake: As Bond is cradling Mathis after Mathis gets shot by the policemen, the blood on Bond's right hand changes between the long shots and the close ups. (01:03:10)
Continuity mistake: While Greene is talking to his associates in Bregenz, the opera is approaching the end of act one which finishes just as Greene and Bond meet in the hall. However, at this point Mario Cavaradossi is suddenly being shot, which is the end of act three/the end of the opera. At the same time the music jumps to the end of act two, just after Tosca stabbed Scarpia; this scene is then shown while Bond is being chased.
Continuity mistake: In the car chase scene at the beginning, the number plate of the Alfa changes once it goes from the road to the quarry.
Continuity mistake: When M meets Bond near the beginning of the film, as she walks down the stairs she is wearing flat shoes, but as she gets to the bottom she is wearing high heels. (00:16:45)
Continuity mistake: At the very end, when Bond throws the can of motor oil at Greene, it first lands next to his left foot. The next shot from Greene's POV, looking down on the ground, shows that the can is now in front of his feet. (01:36:20)
Continuity mistake: During the fight scene at the Hotel Dessalines with Slate, Bond and Slate go through glass pane doors and land on the terrace, and Bond kills Slate. Notice that at first there is a broken piece of wood pane laying next to Slate's head; the next shot shows no wood pane, and there is a door knob that wasn't laying close to Slate's head in the first shot. Continuity mistake: After Bond pours himself a glass of Mathis' wine, what is left in the bottle is not consistent with how much Bond, Mathis and his girlfriend poured out. More should be missing.
Continuity mistake: After Camille shoots General Medrano, she sits up on the floor looking at him; the very next shot has an overturned table beside her that wasn't in that first shot. (00:01:45)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie, Bond and M are interrogating Mr White, who Bond brought in. As Mr White tells Bond that he was always interested in meeting him, look at his face - there is no blood line going down the right side of his face. But the next shot shows one as he continues talking. (00:09:15)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning the roadway openings have curved arches, a very short straight section with rectangular openings, then more arches. When the driving begins, the arches have disappeared and the entire sequence is on a very long curved section with rectangles, before they get to the open road. (00:00:50)
Continuity mistake: After the opening car chase the Aston Martin is covered in chalk but surprisingly Bond's suit is completely clean despite him losing a car door during the chase.
Answer: He's an operative of the Quantum organisation that Bond is up against who specialises in seducing women who can then be manipulated into helping their cause - in Vesper's case by pretending to be kidnapped to force her to cooperate. When Bond catches up with him, he's in the process of seducing another woman, no doubt to involve her in some scheme or other. Bond tells her the truth and she leaves, leaving Bond to deal with the Quantum agent.
