Live and Let Die

Plot hole: James Bond shouldn't have gotten away at the end of the airport scene, where he steals an aeroplane and pretends to be a flying instructor. He had no wings with which to fly away, and he ended back up right outside the airport. So, the henchmen, who seemed to still be chasing him one shot before he parked, should have been right on him, waiting when he got out of the plane. (01:06:55)

Suggested correction: This is not necessarily true. He already got away from the cars chasing him, as they crashed. Any that were still pursuing him would have been blocked in the hangar. The other guys running after him were running on foot. Even while taxiing, the plane is faster than the men on foot. Once the plane is stopped, we don't see what happens next as it cuts to the next scene after the funny bit with the pilot. So the exact means of his escape or not is speculation.

Revealing mistake: When Tee Hee and Bond are fighting in the train compartment, watch the right edge of the screen. In one of the shots the end of the set is visible as Bond shoves Tee Hee against the "wall", which wobbles. So much is revealed you can see the wooden framing. (01:58:10)

Suggested correction: How is that a mistake? The interior walls of the train would be made of wood to both be cheaper and cut down on weight for the train haul.

Other mistake: When James kills the snake in his bathroom with the flame from his cigar and the aerosol, the carpet doesn't appear even singed. (00:34:35)

Suggested correction: It was a woollen carpet. Wool is fireproof.

It would still have been singed.

It does, as it turns brown.

Revealing mistake: The snake held up to kill the agent and later Solitaire is obviously not a real snake but a fake one. Look at how stiff it looks. (00:04:20 - 01:44:05)

Suggested correction: As someone who used to own a redtail boa constrictor and a regular watcher of snake channels like Chandler's Wild Life, I can tell you that this snake is very much behaving like a real constrictor would when held that way. It is stiff because it's one long noodle of muscle. And depending on how he presses his fingers into it, it can lock up even more. That's how he forces the mouth to open up by pressing into the muscles on the back of the neck below the head.

Continuity mistake: After James lands with his hang glider on the island, he turns his jacket inside-out. There are no lapels. When he sits in Solitaire's chair, there are big lapels. (00:49:05)

Suggested correction: He never finishes putting the jacket on before walking off screen. There is nothing to suggest the jacket doesn't have them and just hasn't been turned yet as he's not finished getting dressed.

Continuity mistake: After Bond has killed the snake with the aerosol can in his hotel bathroom, he puts down the cigar he is smoking next to the sink. When he hears the door opening, he walks into the bedroom and the cigar is back in his mouth again. (00:34:40)

Suggested correction: Watch the scene a bit closer. After he sets the cigar down, he puts aftershave on his hand and rubs it on his face, then sets the can back down. As he starts to walk, you can see him reach towards the sink again. This is where he would have picked the cigar up off screen. Then, just as he is placing his hand on the light switch, watch closely in the next shot, and the cigar is in his other hand where he picked it up. He shoves it in his mouth before acting on the silhouette on the door.

Other mistake: The Oh Voodoo shop in NY and the underground car park exit are both one level below street level. JB walks out of the back of the shop and finds Whisper's Corvette pimp mobile on the same level. So why does the Cadillac limo have to leave the car park using a vehicle lift? (00:20:20)

Suggested correction: I've watched this scene over and over trying to figure out what the mistake here supposedly is. I can't see anything wrong with this. Was this intended as a question for the site and not a mistake? If not, and this is actually a mistake, it needs to be worded more clearly, as this doesn't really make sense. At least I'm not seeing it.

Rosie Carver: There's a.
James Bond: Oh, a snake. I forgot, I should have told you. You should never go in there without a mongoose.

Trivia: Desmond Llewellyn, who played "Q", only failed to make an appearance in two of the first 19 Bond movies. He wasn't in "Dr. No" (Major Boothroyd is introduced, however, played by Peter Burton), and this film because of the stupid belief by the producers that Bond fans wanted fewer gadgets. (00:10:50)

Question: Bond kills Kananga at the end by placing the bullet with the air pellet in his mouth which causes him to inflate and explode. But Bond had the bullet in his own mouth before when he was concealing it. Why didn't it kill him?

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: Bond just stored the bullet in his own mouth to hide it. As he puts it in Kananga's mouth he presumably pulls a pin, or forces Kananga to bite it.

Soylent Purple

Answer: Bond knew to not bite down. Kananga had no such knowledge. He didn't realise what he was doing, or the effect that it would have on him; hence, boom.
