The Godfather

Other mistake: After Sonny is shot on the causeway, there are a very large number of bullet exit holes visible on the sides of the tollbooths, which could only have been made if the gunmen shot through the walls (not the windows) of the buildings from the inside. This is common in movies. In real life, bullet entry holes in wood appear as small black dots, not the more dramatic-looking splintered gashes made on the other side of the wood as the bullet exits. Other mistake: While Michael is talking with the Sicilian father, requesting to meet his daughter, the camera jostles twice, between the close shots of both men. (01:40:00 - 01:46:00)

Other mistake: When Al Neri shoots Emilio Barzini's bodyguards, they're both only shot in the torso, but when they're on the ground, there's only blood coming out from under their heads.

Factual error: In the scene when Michael visits his father in the hospital in 1945 there's a NYC Fire Dept. Sign on the wall with the name of the Commissioner, Robert O. Lowery, who was commissioner from 1966 to 1973.

Trivia: In the scene where Vito is in the garden with his grandson, he puts a lemon (or an orange) peel in his mouth, and the kid looks scared. Well, the kid really is scared. Marlon Brando improvised that, and the kid wasn't expecting it.

Question: How does Don Vito Corleone know that a meeting was going to be setup for Michael's assassination?

Answer: Being a Don for such a long time, Vito has probably seen most every dirty trick used by the other families.

Answer: The Corleones are the most powerful of the New York Five Families. With Don Corleone now retired, Michael is perceived as an inexperienced and weak successor, making him a likely target for the other dons. He would be the most vulnerable at a closed meeting. Vito knows this and that if Michael were assassinated, the Corleone empire would fall apart and their territory taken over.

Answer: Because at the end of the olive oil war in 1934, Vito used the exact same plan to execute his falling enemy Mariposa, and the traitor in Mariposa's family was his capo Emilio Barzini, and Vito figured out that Barzini will use the same plan to get rid of Michael, an unexperienced boss of a falling family (as known to Barzini).

Chosen answer: Because that's how he would organize a hit like that.
