The Godfather

Other mistake: After Sonny is shot on the causeway, there are a very large number of bullet exit holes visible on the sides of the tollbooths, which could only have been made if the gunmen shot through the walls (not the windows) of the buildings from the inside. This is common in movies. In real life, bullet entry holes in wood appear as small black dots, not the more dramatic-looking splintered gashes made on the other side of the wood as the bullet exits. (01:52:40)

Other mistake: As the camera pans in on Woltz's mansion right before the horse's head scene, his bedroom is on the second floor. However, the windows in his bedroom show a courtyard in the background. The horse's head scene was filmed in a dining-room-turned-bedroom at a Guggenheim mansion on Long Island. The Guggenheim dining room is located on the first floor, as shown in a February 2022 episode of Antiques Roadshow.

Other mistake: When Michael arrives in Las Vegas at the Hotel Continental and exits the car two men are visible through the window inside the hotel who are dressed in 1972 contemporary attire, despite this scene being set in the 50s. The man on the left in a blue jacket looks as though he could be David Geffen. (02:19:38)

Other mistake: While Michael is talking with the Sicilian father, requesting to meet his daughter, the camera jostles twice, between the close shots of both men. (01:40:00 - 01:46:00)

Other mistake: When Al Neri shoots Emilio Barzini's bodyguards, they're both only shot in the torso, but when they're on the ground, there's only blood coming out from under their heads.

Factual error: In the scene when Michael visits his father in the hospital in 1945 there's a NYC Fire Dept. sign on the wall with the name of the Commissioner, Robert O. Lowery, who was commissioner from 1966 to 1973.

Trivia: Marlon Brando won a Best Actor Oscar for his role as Vito Corleone. Robert DeNiro, who played the role via flashbacks in Part II, won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. They remain the only two actors to win Oscars for playing the same character. Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix both won for playing the Joker, but not really the same character, given the very different films and portrayals.
