Deliberate mistake: The mystery begins as Winston points out the postmark on the envelope that Dan receives, it is too faint to see where it's from. But whenever we see a close up of the envelope, there is no postmark at all.

Don (Bill Murray) returns home from his search and finds another pink letter and this letter is from Sherry (Julie Delpy) saying that she wants to get back together with him. Don talks with his neighbor Winston (Jeffrey Wright) and mentions that none of the women he visited is his son's mother. At a diner, Don sees a kid who was at the airport the night before and he thinks that's his son. He buys him some food and after talking for a bit, he says "I know that you think I'm your father" and the kid, freaked out at this, runs away. Don runs after him but doesn't catch up. He stands alone in the street and some guys drive past him and one of the guys in the car looks at Don, meaning that he may or may not be Don's son and that the son could be anywhere...

The Kid: So, as just a guy who gave another guy a sandwich, you have, like, any philosophical tips or anything, for a guy on a-kind of - road trip?
Don Johnston: You asking me?
The Kid: Yeah.
Don Johnston: Well, the past is gone, I know that. The future, isn't here yet, whatever it's going to be. So, all there is, is, is this. The present. That's it.
The Kid: Are you a Buddhist?
