Other mistake: It is stated at the beginning of the film that the events that take place start in the spring of 1976, and span over the summer. The Climax, and final scene of the movie, take place on Halloween night. In the scene directly after Milt Sturmfuller was killed, the gas station attendant is seen reading about the slaying in the local newspaper. The date on the paper is Friday September 8, 1980.
Uncle Red: Where's your Mom?
Marty Coslaw: She and Dad are out back lighting the barbeque, yeah, and Jane's walking around in all these new clothes showing off her tits, acting like no-one ever had tits before her.
Question: Why did Marty insist on shooting the firework at the werewolf? It took him far less time to turn the bike round and roar away than it did to light the rocket it and aim it.
Answer: He might have been hoping that the sudden loud bang and/or flame would scare the beast (werewolf) away - most (if not all) wild animals respond to noise and are afraid of fire.

Answer: Simple fight or flight response. His first thought is to fight whatever is stalking him. Once he discovers it's an actual werewolf he takes off.
