Visible crew/equipment: In the final scene, a boom mike shadow can be seen on the depot wall as Tibbs and Gillespie say their goodbyes.

In the Heat of the Night (1967)
1 visible crew/equipment mistake - chronological order
Directed by: Norman Jewison
Starring: Sidney Poitier, Rod Steiger, Warren Oates, Lee Grant
Continuity mistake: Gillespie does a fairly lengthy audible rewind of the killer's taped confession, but only his last two sentences ("That's all. I didn't mean to kill him") are heard when the tape is immediately played back.
Chief Gillespie: What do they call you up there?
Virgil Tibbs: They call me MISTER Tibbs!
Trivia: Norman Jewison asked Rod Steiger to chew gum when playing the role of Gillespie. Steiger resisted at first but then grew to love the idea, and went through 263 packs of gum during the shooting of the film.
Question: Did Rod Steiger ride a motorcycle at any time at all in the movie "In the Heat of the Night"?

Answer: Not that I recall. He was usually seen in his squad car.
