Other mistake: The couple are shown travelling on an American Eagle prop plane in the islands, but on-board you see them sitting together with another lady sitting on the left of Susan. The prop planes don't seat 3 together. This shot must have been filmed across the aisle on a larger jet. (00:03:25)

Visible crew/equipment: When Susan tries on a hat while the couple are shopping in the island town, you can see the cameraman in her mirrored shades. (00:06:00)

Continuity mistake: When Susan and Daniel are in bed, Susan puts her glasses on the table then turns around, and her blanket changes position between two consecutive shots. (00:07:30)

Mortug

Continuity mistake: When Susan and Daniel are making out in bed she starts laughing and says "Nice face." You can see Daniel's nose is clean. When it cuts his nose is covered with face mask stains from Susan's face. (00:07:55)

Continuity mistake: When Susan says "I'm just gonna look, OK?" she puts the snorkel in her mouth, however in the next shot underwater, she has the regulator in her mouth, not the snorkel. (00:33:35 - 00:34:10)

Continuity mistake: In one scene where the husband looks under water to see where the sharks are he gets startled and raises up out of the water. As his face comes up he removes his mask. The camera angle changes and in the next shot you see him removing his mask again. (00:50:20)

Audio problem: When the couple is flying to their vacation destination, they are in a Turbo-Prop aircraft. The sound affect used was from a piston engined aircraft.

Continuity mistake: During the scene in which the two main characters are diving, before the boat leaves them, Susan's snorkel swaps from the left side of her mask to the right and back again.

Other mistake: There are 20 divers counted onto the boat. They all head into the water in 2s, but somehow there is 1 person left without a diving buddy.

Audio problem: When the two submerge they are talking, but they have regulators in their mouths.

Plot hole: It shows two air tanks missing on the boat. Now obviously when they get back to shore and all the tanks are put back, there would be two empty spaces, meaning hey, we forgot two people.

Suggested correction: True, but who says they didn't alert the authorities or return when they eventually realised it? Even if they did, the two divers drifted and were being stalked by sharks. It was set up earlier in the film when they showed their flawed way of tracking who went into the water and returned, so it makes sense that they overlooked what happened. There's also a scene when the boat returns where an employee notices two missing tanks, so they did notice it.

Susan: I can't even believe you'd bring that up right now. You were the one who picked the dates.
Daniel: Oh yeah, of my whopping two choices - this was the better date.

Trivia: During filming the actors were not allowed to wear sunscreen because it was too shiny for the camera. They got terrible sunburns from the neck up.

Question: Where is the film set and where can I read up about the true story?

Answer: The film was inspired by an incident at St Crispin's Reef, a dive site on the Great Barrier Reef in 1998, when Tom and Eileen Lonergan was left behind by their diving boat after an error was made during the headcount. They were never seen again. More information can be found at http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200310/200310_mysteries_2.html.
