Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Continuity mistake: When Aunt Marge is blowing up, one of her buttons pops off and hits Dudley in his forehead making him fall to the floor. We see him lying on the floor beside the table but when it cuts he is suddenly getting up right at the table. (00:04:55)

Mortug

Continuity mistake: When the Dementors enter the train, there is a shot from in the carriage looking out. In this shot there is a bottle of water on a shelf and it's moving. When the shot changes to show the carriage from the outside, the water is suddenly still.

Ssiscool

Continuity mistake: In the first scene when Harry and Sirius are by the lake, Harry sees someone conjure a Patronus on the other side; initially the silvery form of a stag is seen for quite awhile, then the circular light that broadens. However, after Harry and Hermione go back in time, as the shot faces Harry, he yells, "Expecto Patronum!" and immediately the wand emits circular light that magnifies and repels the Dementors. (01:44:05 - 02:01:00)

Continuity mistake: In the shot where Hagrid is telling Harry, Ron and Hermione that Buckbeak is going to be executed, you see Hermione (in the background) turn her head away and put her hand on her hip. In the next shot, which is a reverse shot and shows the actors' backs, she is still looking at Hagrid with her hands by her sides. (01:10:05)

Continuity mistake: Hagrid stands up and knocks over all of the glasses on his table at the beginning of the year. In the next shot, look to the left of Hagrid, between two candlesticks. A single glass is sitting upright on the table. In the next shot when Hagrid sits back down, none of the glasses are upright, but with the position the glass was in it should've been visible in this shot. (It's a bit hard to see, and it was spotted in widescreen.)

Audio problem: When Fudge is standing behind Harry's chair, Harry asks, "Sirius Black, you mean?" At the top of the screen Fudge's mouth visibly moves as if he were saying, "Yes", but nothing is heard. (00:13:40)

Continuity mistake: When Scabbers bites Ron and escapes, he and Hermione are standing very close together, but in the next shot they're further apart.

Continuity mistake: When entering the Hippogriff paddock, there is a shot of Hagrid stepping over the wall with the children behind and the ground is sunlit. Then it cuts to a wider shot and the ground isn't sunlit. (00:30:45)

Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hermione are running from the werewolf, they hide behind a tree and start edging around it to avoid the werewolf. When they are eventually seen by the werewolf, Harry is at least a foot behind Hermione but in the next shot he is beside her.

Other mistake: On the Dutch edition of the POA DVD, you can choose either English or Dutch audio. During Snape's werewolf lesson, he demands the students to "turn to page 394". On the Dutch audio version Snape demands "page 349" (considering the way in which the Dutch pronounce numbers an understandable mistake, but still a mistake), and it occurs each time Snape demands for this page. However, the Dutch subtitles oddly enough get the correct translation of the page number. (00:49:35)

Tricky

Continuity mistake: When Marge arrives, as she walks towards Petunia, there are two gold trim bars installed between the carpet edges and kitchen floor - one in the doorway and another between the kitchen counter and wall. Both disappear in the following shots. (00:02:00)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: When Harry goes to the table to clean up Marge's broken glass and when he stands at the counter as Marge blows up, there is a large rug in the kitchen, under the center cart, whose edge reaches the counter stools. When Harry storms downstairs with his trunk, Petunia and Dudley stand at the kitchen doorway and the rug is gone - it would be visible if it was on floor. (Likewise, the rug was gone when Marge and Ripper arrived, but it could be presumed that the rug was laid out before their meal.) (00:03:50 - 00:06:40)

Super Grover

Audio problem: Ron's "let's go" sounds different before and after the time travel.

Continuity mistake: When Sirius and Lupin cast a spell to change Pettigrew from a rat and back into human form, he is fully clothed, as was Sirius when he changed from a dog. Later, when Pettigrew changes back into a rat to escape, his clothes remain behind as he shrinks.

Continuity mistake: Hermione and Ron's feet seem really close together after Buckbeak's "execution", but after Scabbers bites Ron their feet are suddenly much further apart.

Other mistake: When Harry and Hermione travel back in time with the Time Turner, Hermione states that the time is 7:30, we then see them run to Hagrid's shack. As the camera passes through the clock on the castle, it shows the time is either 2:00 or 12:10. As well as this we are told that Buckbeak is to be executed at sundown, but he is executed in broad daylight, looking more like midday. (01:43:40)

Mcgregorc00

Continuity mistake: When Harry, Ron and Hermione are in the shrieking shack Lupin comes in and says "Finally the flesh reflects the madness," look at the left side door behind him, it is facing outwards then it turns inwards in the next shot of him.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Harry stands in front of the Gryffindor dorm and says the password, the door opens inwards. But when the shot changes to inside the dorm, there is no open door visible. (00:27:40)

Sirius Black: Brilliant, Snape. Once again you've put your keen and penetrating mind to the task and as usual come to the wrong conclusion.

Question: Why does Dumbledore purposely hit Ron's injured leg?

Answer: This didn't happen in the book. It appears to be done purely for comic effect in the movie, showing Dumbledore's eccentric and quirky nature. He's seemingly oblivious to what he's doing and how it affects Ron.

raywest

Answer: Ron had previously bragged to Hermione about how bad his leg was injured, and had lied and said his leg might be chopped off. When Dumbledore later hits Ron's leg, he is saying that a child's voice no matter how honest and true. He is giving Ron a little payback for exaggerating.

Highly unlikely Dumbledore knew what Ron told Hermione at the Whomping Willow. Ron's leg was seriously hurt, so he wasn't "bragging" about it, nor did he lie. Ron, who is a bit of a hypochondriac, was simply embellishing to be more dramatic and to gain Hermione's sympathy. Hardly anything Dumbledore would consider worth giving him "payback" by inflicting pain.
