Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Continuity mistake: When Sean, Rennie and the sewage worker walk down the sewers, in frontal shots and reverse shots, the sewage worker repeatedly changes from holding his flashlight by his side / out in front. (01:26:55)

Hamster

Factual error: In relation to the position of the sewage workers shadow, and the way Jason kills him, there is no way that the splatter of blood would have hit the wall the way it does. In addition the blood looks like paint. (01:27:20)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: The black sludge on the girl's white pants when she's in the sewer at the end is constantly changing. It sometimes changes position or isn't there at all in later shots. The best example is when she lures Jason away from the guy that just got knocked out and runs into the dead end. She slides down the wall next to the toxic chemical container and the back and sides of her pants are completely covered in the black sludge, when she runs away, her pants are totally clean. (01:27:55)

Continuity mistake: When Rennie and Sean are on the ladder in the sewer Rennie's position changes between shots. (01:29:50)

Continuity mistake: When Toby turns up at the end, in the street, in the first shot of him his shadow is short. In the next shot it's very long. (01:32:15)

Plot hole: Where exactly did all the other people go on the ship? In the beginning of the movie there were people everywhere then all of a sudden it's down to the main characters.

Plot hole: In Part VII Jason's clothes were shredded and you could see his spine, kneecaps, etc. but now his clothes appear almost intact.

Other mistake: Jason seems to be able to teleport in this film. Most notably towards the end when Mr. McCulloch is running from him down an ally, Jason is behind him, then in a matter of seconds he's on the top floor of a building, without ever entering it, in time to throw McCulloch out the window.

Plot hole: Jason all of a sudden can drive a boat and out of nowhere, seems to know about a cruise ship filled with teenagers ready for him to kill. Yeah, makes sense to me. Especially since there is land with buildings right where Jim and Suzie drop anchor on their boat. Jason gives up killing people in those buildings to drive to a cruise ship that he cannot possibly know about? Also the fact that the survivors get to New York and minutes later Jason just happens to pop out of the water? Are we led to believe that he not only learned how to swim to New York but he managed to not kill everyone while they were in the life raft?

SAZOO1975

Factual error: When Rennie and Sean are on the ladder and the toxic waste is flooding through "destroying" Jason, they are completely unscathed. There is no way there would be no splash back burning them, plus the fumes from the toxic waste which they are subjected to would have done them serious bodily harm.

Continuity mistake: In part 7, Tina uses her powers to split the hockey mask in two. In some shots you can see the straps of the mask cut into the back of Jason's head, leaving large cut marks. However in this movie when the mask is removed, the cut marks are not there.

SAZOO1975

Revealing mistake: In the scene when the crazy guy is hit in the back with the axe, when he falls, the axe sways side to side a little bit, then stops a couple inches of center from before.

Continuity mistake: Not long into the movie, Reni is looking for her dog. Next time we see the dog, it is on her lap in the life boat. Between these two scenes they never show her finding the dog: it just appeared out of nowhere.

SAZOO1975

Revealing mistake: When Jason breaks his hand through the door it's really strange how his hand makes a perfect square on the broken door. Telling that the door was already broken and then repaired loosely for the stunt.

Other mistake: Rennie shouldn't have been able to get on the boat at all. Being high school students, they would need a permission slip signed by their legal guardian to board the ship, just like any field trip. And, it's obvious that Charles would not sign one allowing Rennie to board. He definitely voiced his objections to the female teacher. Rennie can't make that decision on her own as she did.

Suggested correction: It was a graduation field trip. They were no longer students. Therefore she didn't need permission.

lartaker1975

Continuity mistake: The previous movie saw Jason looking dark greyish brown, here he's a slimy light grey and has gained a pair of black rubber looking gloves.

Rob245

Continuity mistake: Rennie's visions of Jason as a boy change their appearance constantly throughout the film. At some points he is bald and deformed, much like how he was in the original film. At other times he appears as a normal, non-deformed boy with a full head of brown hair. At some moments he even appears as a mix of both (with a deformed face, but a full head of hair). This inconsistency is never explained or even acknowledged.

Rennie: There is a maniac trying to kill us.
Waitress: Welcome to New York.

Question: What was with the ending? He melts down to a regular looking boy when in the original he was shown as deformed. I hate this ending, consider it the weakest and worst of the franchise.
