The Majestic

Continuity mistake: After Jim Carrey crashes the car on the bridge and, we see in the long shots that the lamp on the half-broken post above him is swinging from side to side. However each time we cut to a closeup of Carrey's face, it is lit very evenly - although the only source of light nearby is swinging wildly.

Continuity mistake: When Pete awakes on the shore, the dog licking his face steps over his head, leaving footprints in the sand. In the following shots, however, the footprints have disappeared. (00:18:40)

Continuity mistake: When Jim Carrey's car goes into the water, it lands upside down. Then he is underwater and gets his coat off. The car is completely submerged at this point. When he comes up for air, the car is only halfway submerged with one of the ends sticking up perpendicular to the surface of the water.

Factual error: The film is set in 1951 but Peter and Adele have their first dance to the tune "Stranger On The Shore" which was first released in 1961.

Peter Appleton: I thought this was a democracy.
Leo Kubelsky: The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, they're all just pieces of paper with signatures on them. And you know what a piece of paper with a signature is: a contract. Something that can be renegotiated at any time. Just so happens that the House un-American activities committee is renegotiating the contract this time around. Next time it will be somebody else, but it will always be somebody.

It's the same gold statue head that Indy retrieves from the Incan temple in Raiders of the Lost Ark and rumoured to be enshrined in Lucas's living room. The Majestic writer/director Frank Darabont is a close friend of Lucas, writer of Young Indiana Jones, and also rumoured to be writing Indy 4.

Question: How is it that everybody except Bob mistook Peter for Luke? Luke was well-known by the whole town so it seems kind of strange that they would mistake a complete stranger with amnesia for someone they've actually known for a long time.

Answer: The father showed a picture of Luke. Peter and Luke were identical twins.
