Urban Legend

Continuity mistake: When Brenda is caught wounding Natalie by Reese, she backs away. As Reese points her gun at Brenda and tells her to back up, between shots Brenda's coat keeps changing it's position on her shoulders from on or off them. (01:26:15)

Plot hole: In one gruesome scene, the killer hangs Natalie's friend in the woods and then crashes a car into a tree. Natalie escapes and comes back with campus security (who didn't bother to call the police even though a murder had just been committed). When Natalie and the guard get to the murder scene, all evidence is gone. How did the killer manage to remove the body and all pieces of the car within ten minutes (not to mention somehow hide the dent left in the tree by the car crash)?

Plot hole: When Natalie and Damon are in the woods when Damon goes to the bathroom and the killer approaches him from the behind, it cuts to the scene with Natalie in the car. Then she gets out and sees the killer then runs to the car. You see the killer put rope on the car but how does the killer hang Damon without Natalie noticing?

Audio problem: When Michelle is taken inside by the gas station attendant, she thinks he is going to attack her. As she tries the locked door and he grabs her, we hear herscreams but her mouth doesn't match up to them. (00:06:35)

Continuity mistake: When Natalie and Paul are talking upstairs at the party, at one point Paul puts his hand up by Natalie's ear. Natalie then puts her hand up on Paul's wrist. However between shots the hand she placed on his wrist keeps appearing then disappearing. (00:59:30)

Suggested correction: Lawyer here - Not a mistake at all. She would be liable as an accessory, under aiding and abetting. The exact crime varies between common law jurisdictions, but she is laughing along when Michelle is speeding and terrorizing the other driver. In common law jurisdictions, that would be viewed as encouragement of Michelle's committing a crime (she explicitly says she didn't tell Michelle to stop), which is a form of abetting, and indeed carries criminal charges.

Factual error: After Tosh got her wrists cut, she wasn't discovered til the next morning. After so long blood stops flowing from a wound so the blood from her wrists wouldn't soak through the sheet as seen.

Continuity mistake: At the end when Brenda flies through the windshield, she goes into the water face down. When Natalie and Paul see her floating, she's face up.

Revealing mistake: When the killer calls Parker, when we see the phone it's not showing details from caller ID, it's just showing the address book.

Continuity mistake: Natalie picks up the urban legend book at the library. After she bumps into Sasha, the book is now thicker.

Revealing mistake: When Natalie discovers Tosh's body, a close up shows Tosh visibly blink her eyes.

Continuity mistake: At the frat party, the song Love Rollercoaster by Ohio Players is played, and one of the guys points out the scream, which is the scream of a woman being murdered. However the scream we hear in the film is not the same scream which is in the song. (00:57:40)

Continuity mistake: When Tosh is on the computer she is in a Gothic chat room. As she types her first message you can see it is for the entire room. But as the shot changes it is now for just one user. It happens too fast for it to be a technological intervention. (00:36:20)

Audio problem: When Natalie shoots Brenda backwards, causing her to fly out of the window, we hear the sound of smashing glass as she flies out. However there was no glass; the window was missing and the hole was boarded up with planks, so we should not hear glass. (01:28:45)

Continuity mistake: When Natalie is in the car, she is unaware that tied to the back is rope which is also hanging Damon from the tree. When she reverses, this causes him to crash into the windshield. However between shots the way he is falling and the way he lands is inconsistent. (00:29:55)

Plot hole: When the girl in the car gets killed she is decapitated with an axe. All you see is her noticing someone in the back of the car then a shot of an axe coming through the driver's seat window. How did the killer manage to swing an axe in a car and take off someone's head whilst he was sitting right behind her?

Continuity mistake: In the opening scene with Michelle driving, there is a wide shot of the dash board, and you can see the pointer is on fifty-eight mph. Then in the next close up of the low fuel signal, the pointer is no longer there. (00:03:05)

Hamster

Revealing mistake: In the chase sequence, we get a shot of who is supposed to be "Brenda" driving, but we see the eye of a man, not a woman. Brenda doesn't have bushy eyebrows, and her eyes are a different shade of blue. (01:20:05 - 01:24:20)

Continuity mistake: When Natalie and Brenda are walking across campus and come across the stall with Paul's newspapers, Natalie picks up one of them. Between shots, the way she holds it open changes from holding it in the middle, to the top. (00:19:40)

Paul Gardener: How long have you been working here?

Question: I do not completely get the whole "Gang headlight" thing at all,I've seen the film more than 10 times but it still is confusing.

Answer: This urban legend involves wannabe gang-bangers being required to make a kill to join the gang. In this scenario they drive with their headlights off and kill the driver of the first car that flashes their headlights at them. This was proved to be a false urban legend by snopes.com where more information can be found at http://www.snopes.com/horrors/madmen/lightsout.asp.

Answer: For another, film centric, explanation, the Kevin Bacon film - Death Sentence features the gang high beam initiation. It's really what starts off the whole film plot and vigilante revenge storyline.
