Continuity mistake: After Darth Vader kills Ben, there's a shot from the docking bay towards him. Vader's lightsaber is missing its red color. [This has been fixed in the 2004 DVD, but is still valid for VHS prints.] (01:28:20)

Luke pilots an X-Wing fighter along a channel on the space station's surface. As he's about to release a torpedo, three Imperial fighters led by Vader come in behind and target him. Just as Vader is about to fire, Han and Chewbacca fly in and blast one of the fighters. Vader's ship is clipped by the other fighter and spins out of control into deep space. Luke fires the torpedo and hits the target. The Death Star explodes. In a grand ceremony, Princess Leia awards Luke and Han medals for their efforts.
Darth Vader: I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Answer: Presumably because the monster has pulled him through the lair of whatever they are standing on into whatever space the rest of the body of the monster lives in. Obviously, the monster doesn't live in the part of the part of the compactor that does the compacting or it would be already compacted.
