Fifty Shades Darker

Question: During the masquerade scene, Ana walks down the stairs and passes by Jack before he takes a photo of Christian and his family. My question is, how did he get there at all? Is it possible he had that information, meaning where Christian's parents were and when the masquerade would be, from the files he got in Fifty Shades Freed? Did he even have those files before starting the fire because that's when they first came into focus for the story?

Answer: The ball was an annual charity event the Grey family held that Jack probably knew about. Certainly it is no secret on where the Grey family estate is located, so Jack could easily find it and slip into the party, appearing as a guest. As the event was to raise money, the guests would not necessarily be restricted only to family friends. Often, people can buy a ticket to attend such an event.

Question: Why is Hannah always looking at Jack in a weird way? She does this at least twice in the movie: once when he's approaching Ana, and later after Ana left for José's photography exhibition. Is something going on between them or did?

Answer: Hannah is aware of Jack's reputation for being sexually aggressive, resulting in his previous assistants quitting their jobs. She correctly surmises that he is now targeting Ana as his next victim.

Question: Maybe I missed it but, why couldn't Ana go to New York with Jack? I thought her and Christian decided that she could go just as long as Christian would take her instead.

Chosen answer: It wasn't specified, but it seemed to be Ana's decision alone. Jack had pressured her to go to New York when she did not want to. She probably realised later that Jack only wanted her to go so he could seduce her. She felt empowered enough to stand up to him and say, "no," she wasn't going to New York (with or without Christian).

Question: Maybe I missed it but is there a particular reason why Christian won't let Ana touch him?

Chosen answer: Because he's extremely neurotic and is unable to have intimate relationships with women other than purely sexual ones. He also did not want to be touched in the area where he'd been physically scarred by his birth mother's abusive boyfriend.

Trivia

When Ana is telling Hannah, her new assistant, what she expects of her in the job, the dialogue is taken from the 1988 film "Working Girl," starring Dakota Johnson's mother, Melanie Griffith. Ana says, "I expect you to call me Ana. I don't expect you to fetch me coffee, unless you're getting some for yourself, and the rest, we'll just make up as we go along." In "Working Girl," Melanie Griffith says, "I expect you to call me Tess. I don't expect you to fetch me coffee unless you're getting some for yourself, and the rest we'll just make up as we go along."
