Continuity mistake: When the Homeland Security guy is sitting in the lobby in Vancouver, Canada, a girl and another man are walking behind him and across the lobby in the wide shot. But when it zooms in on him, the same people and more are walking behind him again as if they never were crossing the lobby. (00:28:45)
Continuity mistake: Brahms was quite clean for having been buried under dirt and leaves. No dirt fell off Brahms' body when Jude pulled him out of his "grave" and there did not appear to be dirt in his hair. When Sean (Jude's father) held up Brahms, the doll looked relatively clean - or cleaner compared to when Liza (Jude's mother) started to wash him. (00:14:10 - 00:15:45)
Continuity mistake: When Nick leaves to deliver presents he walks out the door and you hear the door close. When his wife goes after him with the flask you see him opening the very same door he's just walked out. (00:24:50)
Continuity mistake: When the family stopped along the road for a break, the car towing the camper was parked diagonally to the left (not aligned with the camper). The car was visible behind Alan when he was talking to Ben, but it was not when Alan was walking toward Tyler and Charlie. Also, Alan and Ben were at various distances from the camper. Continuity mistake: The same couple are sitting behind Alex and Greville when they attended Cinderella and Swan Lake ballet at two different times.
Continuity mistake: James lit the cigarette he gave Amanda, and she was shown taking one puff. Amanda tells part of the Empty Man story and the ashes on the tip of her cigarette are the same when she takes a second puff. After continuing the story for about two minutes, the length of the ashes still have not increased when Amanda is about to take the third puff. (00:37:21 - 00:39:53)
Continuity mistake: After PJ lets Officers John and Julia inside, there are a few continuity errors with the box on the table and the lamp's cord. Initially, the white evidence box is flush with the counter and the front side (with a hand slot) is facing the lower right corner of the screen. Later, the box is closer to the edge and the front side has been turned about 45°. The lamp's cord is sometimes flat on the table but other times there are two upward loops. Continuity mistake: First argument. Leilani shouts "Why are you being so loud right now?", with a hand behind her neck. She does not start the next shot in that position, she puts her hand there only a second later. (00:04:05)
Continuity mistake: Jim's Dodge Ram with a camper seems to change colors, mostly variations of gray. Initially, both are a light gray. Other times, both look white - or even blue. Sometimes, the truck is dark gray and the camper is white. (00:03:05 - 00:25:12)
Continuity mistake: The flatbed truck that Kyle and Swin got in at the onset of their trip is very different when they parked and went to buy rope (but got tape). The truck style is different, the cargo and its cover have changed (tarp is smaller, a different color, and is wrapped across instead of front to back), and the orange cone/cones change locations. Continuity mistake: Theo lays Susanna's phone down - when it cuts back to her phone is lying in the opposite direction.
Continuity mistake: The amount of dirt on Neil's face is inconsistent. When he is lying on his stomach, there appears to be a line of dirt along his jaw line. A little later, he has three lines of dirt on his cheek - like someone used a dirty finger to smear dirt vertically halfway down his cheek, then make a diagonal line of dirt partially overlapping, followed by an almost horizontal line across the bottom of his cheek. Also, the sunburned forehead, face, shoulders, and "V-neck" that Neil has before he gets up is largely gone thereafter. (00:04:32)
Continuity mistake: The replay of Bart and Andrea's conversation at check-in are not verbatim - at times, only a word or two ("uh", "um", "just") is added, but other times there are parts that simply were not stated. Granted, Bart is practising and his additions are not meant to be a reflection of what was actually stated, but the things Andrea said were on tape and these do not always match. Bart did not ask, "Seven nights?" and Andrea didn't reply, "Yeah. A week, maybe longer. I'm not sure yet. So, you're new." (00:27:14 - 00:28:47)
Continuity mistake: After seeing the helicopter that her father called for, Min-jung reaches for a machine gun that is lying on the ground, using her right hand. When the shot cuts, she is using her left hand. (01:42:51)
Continuity mistake: When Dellinger is about to leave home to Chicago her wife's hand swaps between being on the boy's shoulder or over his left bicep.
Continuity mistake: When Josh's mom is about to cut the Butcher/Millie out of the chair, pay attention to her right hand, which is holding the knife. Right before the Butcher/Millie springs up, as she's talking to her son, her arm goes from down by her side with the knife pointed down, to up by her chest instantly between cuts.
Continuity mistake: Bernice's bangs go back and forth between having a small section separated from the rest to not separated. Before she kisses Thomas, her bangs are separated, but combed together when they are done kissing. (00:21:56)
Continuity mistake: Running away from the guard after the burglary, Joey and Matt went down a fairly steep hill in the woods. After passing the hole, they walked up a small embankment to go toward home. The next morning, Joey is riding his bike down a steep hill (the one that was before the hole?) - so steep he has to get off his bike and push it. Halfway down, the camera shifts and Joey is suddenly on TOP of a small embankment, which appears to be the one he and Matt walked up the day before on their way home.
Continuity mistake: The fragments from the truck's taillights that Cassie smashed with a tire iron were obviously "neatly rearranged" (and looked resized to be more uniform) before showing them after the man drove away. Cassie hit the outer sides of the rear taillights and fragments of various sizes scattered, so all would not settle close together along the bumper. One large fragment from the passenger side flew past Cassie behind the truck and landed about three or four feet away but was not there afterwards.
Continuity mistake: Numerous times throughout the movie, the blood splatter on Sam's face (especially noticeable on the right side and above her right eyebrow) varied. For example, sometimes the blood above her eyebrow was straighter compared to usually arched and the length, width and/or vividness of the red "blood" changed (perhaps due to filming on different days and/or re-applying/ refreshing the make-up).
