Best horror movie mistakes of 2008
Continuity mistake: A few minutes after James accidentally shoots his friend, he reloads his shotgun and tells Kristen that he is going outside to look around, and tells her to stay put. He walks to the front door and as he passes the clock on the back wall, it reads 5:00 a.m. A few minutes later, Kristen walks past the same clock, and it reads 4:30 a.m.
Factual error: The aircraft used to fly to Shangri-La is a Bristol Beaufighter, a single seat long range fighter bomber. It was not a transport aircraft and could not carry passengers. Some variants of the Beaufighter were two seaters but none at all could be used as small airliners as they do here. It is not possible to simply reconfigure the aircraft as shown here - the centre of gravity, balance and trim would all be thrown out. The resulting jury-built aircraft would be uncontrollable in flight.
Factual error: When you see the blind Syndey walk through her appartment she keeps touching the walls to feel where she is. A person who has been blind for over 20 years (as is mentioned in the film) knows the way around their own home. They know preciseley how many steps it is from room to room. They wouldn't keep touching the wall like this.
Continuity mistake: As Ben and Jane drive down the road, it is raining. After they hit the ghost, the scene fades to black. When the scene fades back in, it's heavily snowing, and a previously nonexistent thick sheet of snow is covering the ground. As they get out of the car, they start talking. During their conversation, there is a quick cut, and with this, it instantly stops snowing.
Continuity mistake: When Nick and Bobby are playing craps in Rusty Nail's barn, Nick rolls "chest," resulting in Rusty branding Bobby with his R key chain. Rusty puts the red hot key chain in Bobby's shirt pocket and holds it against his chest. When Rusty lets go, you can see a hole has been burned into Bobby's shirt. The very next shot, Bobby is rolling the dice and his shirt is intact. Later on at the very end of the film, Bobby's shirt has the hole in the pocket again.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Lloyd is briefing his team about the events of the next few hours, there is a shot in which he says the words 'weather systems' as someone walks across the screen from the right. Immediately the camera cuts to a close-in shot of Lloyd. But right at the end of the scene, the exact same shot is shown again, minus the sound of Lloyd saying 'weather systems'.
Other mistake: It is crucial to the story that Peter is terrified of moths - but when he is led through the woods at knife point by Tracey, a large moth flies around both their heads for several seconds (lured by lights of the film crew) and he ignores it, being as it's an unplanned visitor.
Continuity mistake: During the sex scene between Milo Ventimiglia and Lauren Lee Smith, in which the fat guy was found dead, three consecutive shots showed that Milo Ventimiglia has his shirt on on the first, then the shirt disappeared on the next, only to reappear on Milo Ventimiglia's body again in the third shot.
Plot hole: At the end of the movie we discover that the main character (Claire) was in the plane crash and was sitting next to Eric as the plane started to go down. However at the beginning of the movie( before we are supposed to know Claire was in the crash) Eric can be seen but Claire is not next to him.
Continuity mistake: When the first guy out of the main 3 is dragged to the hunting range (after having his spine exposed and meat cut off), he falls backwards into the snow and when he sort of rolls over, there is snow all over his exposed backbone and flesh but when he stumbles and gets up, there is no evidence of snow whatsoever.
Continuity mistake: At the end, Casey and Elaine flee the house in the Volvo and find Chloe's crashed SUV. As Casey goes to investigate the SUV on foot, Miranda suddenly comes sprinting out of the woods, intending to kill Casey. To save Casey, Elaine rams Miranda with the Volvo, slamming her into the rear of the SUV. A camera shot from inside the SUV looking out shows that Miranda impacted right in the center of the SUV's rear hatch. In the same shot, we see Miranda's lifeless body slowly slide straight down the hatch, meaning her body should have collapsed directly between the Volvo and the SUV. When the camera cuts to an exterior view, we see Miranda's lifeless body stretched out in the snow (parallel to both vehicles) a couple of feet away from the Volvo's front right fender; so her body is now about 6 feet away from where it should be.
