Trivia: When Donnie is about to enter the car with Gretchen near the end of the film, he clutches at his stomach as if in pain, and we see Frank touch his eye after Donnie dies. Both these moments foreshadow pain: a deleted scene of Donnie's death shows a pole impaling his stomach right where he clutched it. And Donnie shoots Frank in the eye.
Trivia: When Joe Dirt finds out where he lives in Louisiana, there is a guy (Framer Fran) that speaks very strangely. He is played by Blake Clarke who played the same farmer character in The Waterboy.
Trivia: Penelope Cruz played the same character in 'Vanilla Sky' as she did in the Spanish version of the same film, 'Abre Los Ojos'.
Trivia: The character, Ivor Novello, played by Jeremy Northam, was a real-life actor and composer. Six of his songs were included in Gosford Park's soundtrack. His film, "The Lodger" that Lady Constance mentions as being a flop, was a real movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on Jack the Ripper.
Trivia: Kevin Spacey had to record the scene where Prot eats a whole banana (skin and all) 27 times.
Trivia: Mr. Tuttle is also the name of the housekeeper from another haunted-house movie, "The Changeling" (1960).
Trivia: Near the end of the movie, a teacher yells, "Hey teacher, leave those kids alone." A clear reference to Pink Floyd's song "Brick in the Wall".
Trivia: Shortly after completing this film, Vince Vaughn was involved in a bar fight in which his co-star Steve Buscemi was stabbed in the throat, head, and arm trying to back him up. Ironically, it was Vaughn's character who stabbed Buscemi's character in the film.
Trivia: In the scene where Saffron is teaching Dougray how to dance at her favorite dance hall, there is a shot of some of the customers sitting and drinking. You'll see Mick Jagger talking to a girl at a table.
Trivia: After Morgan Freeman shoots the guy with the shotgun, the next scene is outside with the news crew and you will see Morgan Freeman walk by the camera dressed up with dreadlocks and cap and keeps looking at the camera. It's Morgan Freeman playing an extra.
Suggested correction: I agree, it's definitely not Morgan Freeman. If you're talking about the guy in the red knit cap and what looks like a red sweater vest, he doesn't have a mustache and his nose is completely different from Freeman's nose looks like in profile. Without any confirmation from someone from the film (such as a director's commentary) or further evidence, this isn't valid trivia.
Suggested correction: Wow, I find pretty extraordinary that this cameo is not mentioned anywhere else. The guy does look like Morgan Freeman (I am adding a screenshot to the entry), and is not seen anywhere else in the scene, nor Freeman is in the wide shot, so I can't say the entry is false, I just find it quite strange since usually this sort of humorous bit roles get mentioned a lot. Kudos for noticing.
That is not Morgan Freeman.
Trivia: A massive subplot was removed from the film. It was going to be shown throughout the film that a crazy homeless woman was secretly living in the hospital. She'd eerily observe the workers and be a red herring to throw off the audience. SPOILERS. Finally, after she witnesses Gordon kill everyone, she would sneak up and kill him as "revenge." However, her subplot was removed as audiences were confused (thinking she was Mary from the audio tapes) and the director wanted to streamline the plot.
