Audio problem: As she sits on his desk talking about Carmen, Lauren Bacall says to Marlowe, "Norris fixed that, she was in all evening". This line is over dubbed, if you look closely at her lips she's obviously saying something else.

Continuity: Even though no one goes near them, the jar and the statue of a horse on Marlowe's desk move between shots as Lauren Bacall sits down on it while speaking to him about Carmen.

Audio problem: The second time he's in Geiger's house, Marlowe goes into several rooms and turns on a light switch as he snoops around. The light does not come on until a fraction of a second after the switch has been thrown, and the sound of the switch being thrown does not happen until after his hand stops moving.

Continuity: After he brings her home from Geiger's house, Marlowe plops Carmen Sternwood onto her bed and both her hands are above her head. In the next shot her right hand is at her side.

Continuity: While speaking to Gen. Sternwood Marlowe picks up the card that says, "Arthur Gwynn Geiger" and he holds it in the air. In the next close-up shot it's in the pile with the rest of the papers.

Continuity: The top of the seltzer bottle on the liquor tray is facing away from Marlowe than in the next shot as he says, "but then she tried to sit in my lap when I was standing up" it's now facing towards him.

Continuity: The papers in Marlowe's hand are reversed between shots. At first the folded sheet is on the right then when Gen. Sternwood says, "If I did she'd just suck her thumb and look coy" the folded sheet is on the left.

Continuity: Lauren Bacall's not pointing anywhere near the car when she shouts, " there, there, behind the wheel" in order to distract Lash Canino. He eventually shoots at the right spot anyway as he tries to kill Marlowe.

Continuity: Mona Mars tells Marlowe, "Eddie's not that kind," as she holds a glass of water in the palm of her left hand. In the next shot, both her hands are around the top of the glass.

Continuity: Marlowe says to Eddie Mars as he's about to leave his office, " Oh, Eddie, you don't have anybody watching me, do you?" And the collar of Marlowe's shirt is tucked under his jacket. The next time we see it about a second later it's been ruffled up and is no longer tucked under his jacket.

Continuity: After Marlowe walks out of Eddie Mars place to his car he reaches for the gun under his dashboard with both hands. In the next shot his left hand is behind the gun.

Visible crew/equipment: As Marlowe walks up to Eddie Mars' nightclub the bright reflection of a studio light can be seen in the window on the right of the door.

Continuity: Eddie Mars pours Marlowe a drink and he puts the bottle down dead center on a tray on top of the liquor cabinet. He doesn't go near the bottle but later when we see it again it's right of the center of the cabinet, and in the last shot of it it's to the left of the center of the cabinet.

Continuity: As Marlowe sits down Dist. Atty. White is playing with a back scratcher and his left hand is closed around the end of it. In the next shot his left thumb is sticking straight up in the air touching the tip of the back scratcher (1945 Version on DVD).

Continuity: Marlowe walks into Joe Brody's apartment at the Randall Arms and there's a dark shadow across Joe's face as he answers the door. In the next shot as Marlowe walks in his face is lit up.

Continuity: Marlowe pulls his car up and parks in front of the Randall Arms apartments waiting for Lauren Bacall. A guy is walking towards the entrance across the street and in the next shot he disappears.

Visible crew/equipment: As he walks up the road across from Geiger's house, Marlowe stands next to his car for a moment and the crew's reflection can be seen moving in the driver's side hub cap of his car.

Continuity: In Geiger's house when Marlowe finds the hidden camera, we see a vase on the left of the fireplace and it's shadow falls directly behind it. Marlowe doesn't touch any light switches but later in the scene the lighting has changed and the shadow of the vase is now falling to the right of it.

Continuity: The shades on the window that Marlowe kicks open to enter Geiger's house are a little less than one foot apart as he puts Carmen Sternwood onto the sofa. The next time we see them they're wide open even though no one has gone near them.

Continuity: As Marlowe puts Carmen Sternwood onto Geiger's sofa there's a coat on the left arm rest. When he came into the room it wasn't there.
