Visible crew/equipment: Lauren Bacall and Marlowe go back to Arthur Gwynn Geiger's house at the end of the movie and the camera's shadow falls across the lamp as he walks up to the phone.

Continuity: There's a crooked sixth rail on Art Huck's porch that we see up close as he jumps over it when Marlowe shoots at him. Later when Marlowe says to Lauren Bacall ," we'll have to take his car" we see the railing again and it has been set straight.

Continuity: Art Huck runs away after Marlowe fires a warning shot at him coming out of the house. Marlowe watches him as he runs away but looks in the wrong direction behind his car instead of to the front left where we see him running.

Continuity: Lash Canino's right arm is extended out in front of him as he shoots at Marlowe's car. In the next shot his elbow is at a 45-degree angle as Marlowe confronts him.

Continuity: As Marlowe gets up when Canino's car pulls in, the fruit in the fruit bowl behind the couch is entirely different than what we've seen throughout the entire scene.

Continuity: As he sits tied up by the couch, Marlowe says to Lauren Bacall, "Take this thing out of my mouth," and his entire face is wet with the water that Pat Clark threw on him. In the next shot as she takes the cigarette out of his mouth before they kiss, his face is almost dry (1945 Version on DVD).

Continuity: For some information she has, Marlowe meets Agnes Lowzier in her car at the corner of Rampart and Oakwood and hands her two hundred dollars in a nice neat pile. In the next shot of her counting it, the pile is spread out.

Continuity: When we first see him in Marlowe's office, Harry Jones is standing near the left edge of the desk. In the next shot he moves back about a foot and stands at the center of the desk than later he moves back and is at the edge again.

Continuity: Mars' thugs meet up with Marlowe at the bar and tell him that Mrs. Rutledge wants to see him. The two people sitting at the bar behind the thug in the center get up and move between shots.

Continuity: Marlowe sits down as Eddie Mars' pours him a drink. The back of his chair is touching the desk in all of the shots except the last one as Marlowe gets up to leave and we see the chair now about six inches away from the desk.

Continuity: After driving home from Eddie Mars place Marlowe walks into his apartment and Carmen is there waiting for him. After he says, "come on Carmen, come on" she grabs his hand with both of hers and bites him. In the next shot she's holding him with only her left hand.

Continuity: Eddie Mars walks out to okay Lauren Bacall's bet and the lady sitting to the right of the croupier moves her left hand to put a chip on number 27 twice between shots.

Continuity: Marlowe walks over to the roulette table where Lauren Bacall is playing and the croupier has a chip in his hand. In the next shot he doesn't.

Continuity: As they have drinks in the restaurant Marlowe says to Lauren Bacall , "I don't know how far you can go" and she replies, "A lot depends on who's in the saddle" and he goes from having his right hand next to his drink to having both hands around his drink between shots.

Continuity: Marlowe goes into Eddie Mars'place and the butler opens up the door with his left hand while his right hand is at his side. In the next shot his right hand is touching the door.

Continuity: Marlowe stands in a doorway and watches Lauren Bacall singing and we see several people walking through the front door behind him. In the next shot there are only two women walking through the front door.

Visible crew/equipment: In the DA's office Chief Insp. Bernie Ohls says, "You're on the air Marlowe, tell it to him" and you can see the shadow of a boom mike go across Capt. Cronjager's hat (1945 Version on DVD).

Continuity: Marlowe takes his hands off the steering wheel as he sits in his parked car waiting for Joe Brody's killer, Carol Lundgren, to walk by. In the next shot his left hand is back on the steering wheel.

Continuity: Marlowe walks into the DA's office with Chief Insp. Bernie Ohls behind him. At first Marlowe's hat is covering his chest. Than in the next shot as he walks through the door, the hat and his right arm are at his side (1945 Version on DVD).

Revealing: At his house, Marlowe finds Geiger's two day old dead body in a back room and if you look closely the body is breathing.
