The Gang Gets Held Hostage - S3-E4
Trivia: When Frank pulls out the gun on the roof, he says "Yippee-ki-yay Mr. Falcon", a nod to Die Hard 2, the TV version of which infamously had the word "motherfucker" badly dubbed over with "Mr. Falcon."
Trivia: In the show, there's a running gag of Charlie being obsessed with the waitress and her constantly rejecting him. In real life Charlie (Charlie Day) and the waitress (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are married. They married in 2006, although they were dating before the show started.
Trivia: According to the show's assistant prop manager, there were around 100 "poos" created for this episodes, many of which were made from different materials, including a food thickening agent, sheetrock mud and a cookie dough mixture.
The Gang Missess the Boat - S10-E6
Trivia: Charlie Day was initially uncomfortable kissing Kaitlin Olsen, having been friends for a long time and her being married to Rob McElhenney, but was told not to "wimp out." Glenn Howerton wanted to go even further: "a really extended, 5 minute long, interminably long lovemaking scene between the two of them, that wouldn't be funny at all...until it just kept going and going and then it becomes funny again...hopefully." He was talked out of the idea. Day eventually came around: "we don't get to kiss other people very often, let's just enjoy it".
Trivia: More recent seasons have fewer scenes outside the front of the bar - the cast have said the area's been gentrified over the years, so it's now a bit too nice looking around there to match the low-rent feel of the setting.
The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 7 - S15-E2
Trivia: The opening premise is the local library removed Lethal Weapon 5 and 6 because of insensitivity and use of black face. This is a reference to Hulu pulling 5 episodes of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" in real life because the episodes contained black face, including the Lethal Weapon 5 and 6 episodes.
Trivia: This episode is dedicated in loving memory of Bob Latiano. He was Glenn Howerton's father-in-law in real life.
The D.E.N.N.I.S. System - S5-E10
Trivia: Caylee (the pharmacist that Dennis slept with and is trying to get back with) is played by Jill Latiano. Latiano is Glenn Howerton's (Dennis) wife in real life.
Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody's Ass - S2-E9
Trivia: At the end, in the basement, the Russian Roulette scene is similar to the Russian Roulette scene in "The Deer Hunter", with Danny DeVito wearing glasses with one dark lens and the two guys in red headbands and white shirts.
Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack - S4-E10
Trivia: In this episode, Frank (Danny DeVito) goes to a mental hospital. This is a parody of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in which DeVito was also in.
Trivia: When Frank (Danny DeVito) and Angie are at the restaurant, the waitress (Jenny) Frank is checking out is played by Lucy DeVito, Danny DeVito's daughter.
The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore - S7-E2
Trivia: When Frank and Mac are on the ship, you can see a short woman in sunglasses dancing near Frank in a few shots. If you're familiar with internet culture, you might recognize her as Rosanna Pansino, a famous YouTuber. (Though here she's made up to resemble "Snooki" from the show "Jersey Shore"). Pansino is known for her nerd-themed cooking show "Nerdy Nummies," silly challenge videos, and product reviews. She's a huge Danny DeVito fan and managed to score a role as an extra on this episode.
