I watched this show on Netflix.
After watching the original Dark Crystal movie, of course had to move on to this show. Though really, it was this show coming out that made me watch the original movie in the first place with my best friend, and then we watched this together.
I'll say, I just thought the original movie was OK. I liked it well enough but it was nothing special for me. That said, this sequel show I really liked! A big improvement over the movie and I thought carried the series forward in a fun way. I was really invested in it and how they evolved the story telling and expanded this world
that said. The show didn't do well enough and the canceled it after just 1 season, leaving it on a cliff hanger that will likely never be resolved. Which is a real shame. Had this series continued, I would probably give this a 5 star rating. But. Since it was canceled and left on a cliff hanger, it sours the experience knowing this is going nowhere now and left unresolved. Which is very disappointing. I would loved to have had this continue for at least another season.
Who knows... maybe in another 30 years we will get that part 3, lol.
Mistake Status: I doubt I'll get to this series. But I won't leave it off the table. I'd of course need to do the movie first then this series. But I doubt I'll ever get to it.
Finally, 30 yrs later, the story of the Dark Crystal is revisited in a rich, compelling story that transports us to the tumultuous period where the Skeksis show their profound depravity and predate upon their cowed subjects on Thra in their selfish quest for immortality at all cost! In this prequel series, the history behind The Dark Crystal is explored, expanded and explained, new heroes rise up, and all the spectacle and wonder that made the original film a classic are present and perhaps even surpassed. Join the rebellion against the wretched Skeksis and their misguided minions in this enchanting tale! If there's any fault to find, it's inherent in all prequels-you know, ultimately, where the story is headed if you're familiar with the original. That said, this is an extraordinary 10 episode series that screams out for more! Garthim Wars next, anyone?.

Trivia: A sequel to the original film, titled "The Power of the Dark Crystal," was initially planned. However, the film spent many years in development hell with several different writers and directors being attached at different points. Eventually, French director Louis Letterier became attached to the project around 2012, and it was subsequently retooled into this prequel series for Netflix. "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" was finally released in the Summer of 2019 - almost 37 years after the original debuted in Winter, 1982.
