Kane could be a tribute to Bob Kane, one of the creators of Batman, and/or Gil Kane (no relation), a prolific comic book artist whose work includes Teen Titans, Hawk and Dove, Nightwing, Superman, and Batman. Gil Kane was also involved in the 1988 Superman cartoon TV series.
