Trivia: While most of the film was shot in Massachusetts, the cliff scenes were filmed in Minnesota at Palisade Cliff. The vast water you see is Lake Superior. Scenes in the beginning (and the last shot) were shot in New Mexico and Nevada near Lake Mead.

Trivia: The filmmakers tried to get it to be rated PG-13; however, the ratings board saw differently due to "despicable acts." Culkin had just come off Home Alone 2, and studios were hesitant to show him in a negative role. The film's one use of the F word was added after the decision was made to keep the film rated R.

Stupidity: You mean to tell me a bunch of people are just going to stand around while a little girl is drowning and the kid trying to save her is obviously not making an effort? Only when she goes under the ice do people respond. Meanwhile, they're sitting around for a long time doing nothing.
