The Shield (2002)
Amazing cop drama - the first season lags a little bit, bit in the second season they start to find their footing - and the series finale is superb. At the very least, it wasn't your typical police show with the good guys getting the bad guys... sometimes... the bad guys were the good guys.

Crossroads (1986)
Great movie, with killer blues soundtrack (worth the money alone for that if you can still find it). The showdown is the best ever-- with Macchio as somewhat convincing (more than he was in the actual movie).
