Trivia: The studio did not want Jason Mewes to play Jay, even though the character is based on him, reasoning that Mewes wasn't a legitimate actor. Seth Green and Breckin Meyer were brought in to audition for the part. Green told Kevin Smith that he didn't want the part because he felt it belonged to Mewes. The studio agreed to let Mewes film some scenes and ended up approving his casting after Smith sent some dailies to them.
